I know we have USM in just a few hours but our next game after tonight will be just 5 short days away.

Our 2002 game against the New Mexico State Aggies of which after that Mean Green victory thousands of North Texas students & Mean Green fans stormed onto the field heading toward the south end zone to tear the goal post down in celebration. It was quite a sight to see that some of us even participated.

What a game that was against the Aggies back in 2002. Still my favorite UNT home game in 42 years of watching or listening to Mean Green football.

The game was drama-filled throughout with many exciting and memorable plays for all of us who were there to witness. The "DEE-FENSE--Clap! Clap! DEE-FENSE--Clap! Clap!" entire stadium yell resounded with decible levels few of us had ever heard in decades of watching Mean Green football at old Fouts Field. The scoreboard lead changed back and forth. That game made many of us nervous wrecks. We pulled it out at the end. (As I recall, the Aggies also alternated 2 very good QB's during much of that game).

I know we all hope our Rice game this Thursday night will (somehow/someway) have similar results.

IF we win tonight, I would love the AD to use promo/ads featuring video/photos of the goal post being torn down. That will show current students how big of a game this is and how much fun and exciting it will be if we get six wins at home to become bowl eligiable. After today there needs to be a buzz on campus. The images of the storming the field/ goal post being torn down gives people something to wish for.

That was 2002. In 2001 we clinched on the road vs Idaho.

CMJ, you are exactly..........right! I will go up and change that now and thanks for bringing that to my attention. Senior moment?

:glare: WHAT ARE YOU DOING TALKING ABOUT RICE????? Overlooking the USM game.... We are in no position to overlook ANYBODY....

Of course we're not and sort of why I prefaced the first post of this thread with....."I know we have USM in just a few hours but....?"

Don't tell anyone but I've even looked beyond the Rice game to create many "what if we win so and so game" or "what if they lose so and so game" scenarios, too.

Now if Harry puts a "no posting about future games other than the one this week" clause in his message board rules then I will follow that, but until then....I'm going rogue (and what would be so new about that with me)? :)

GMG!

How many of you all would seriously whine if the students/fans stormed the field next week in a surprise win á la Indiana??

Serious question, some info.

those two games wouldn't even be close to being comparable... but let's #beatsomiss first

Rushing the field and taking the goalposts will always be one if my favorite memories from college, what a great nigh all around. I hope the current students get to experience that kind if feeling too.

but lets beat usm first...

STOP TALKING ABOUT THE RICE GAME.

(If we beat Rice, I'm rushing the field. Deal with it.)

You better not be alone, or the campus police might be the ones "dealing with it."

Not a fan of rushing the field/court for anything other than a western conference championship at this point.

This game will have a lot of meaning for me. As a senior my first UNT game as a freshman was the one-point loss to Rice in 2010. This will be my last season watching them as a student, and obviously my first season to see them do anything of significance, since as has been pointed out before with our players I was in 6th grade the last time they went to a bowl game.

Same here, on the Rice game loss.

If we win, it really will hit me in a great way how much this program has grown.

Dear UNT fans,

This is the first time since 2004 since we have had a winning streak. Why are we suddenly overlooking our current opponents? We are not a very good road team. Please stop overlooking the current game. I hope that the players do not think we have already beat Southern Miss like our fans on this board. Do not post another topic about Rice. We need to focus all of our attention on Southern Miss.

Go Mean Green! Focus on the present not the future.

We're fans, who cares if we're looking ahead! That's what fans do! Us talking about the Rice game won't change the outcome of the USM game.

Save the rushing of field for something more impactful. I think it might be cheesy after the Rice game.

I hear what your sayin' meangreenthirteen but I assure you a win over these Rice Owls would be pretty darn impactful for the entire UNT constituency and community. We will not have played so big a home game now in over 10 years.

Wonder if The Marching Owls Band (THE MOB) will be at Apogee Stadium this Thursday?

Disagree. Beat the shit out of SoMiss. If NT beats Rice, rush the field. After the futility of the last 8 years, it will be a big deal.

Don't tear down the goalposts for anything less than a West Division championship though.

:thumbsu: Agree, 97and03!

Slobber-knock the hell out of em' just like we will do USM this evening before that game is done!

Probably my favorite home game my entire time at NT. I was running the Big Ass Flag for the Talons that night. The excitement of clinching a 2nd straight bowl game and championship. A huge crowd, and electiricity in the air.

Just a word of caution whenever we DO tear the goalposts down, watch out for others. I nearly got knocked out from the upright as it was being carted off to Fry St.

So Rudy that was you with the green and white Texas flag toward the end of this video?

Tap the brakes. I've certainly run scenarios in my head as well, which is a big reason I'm rooting agains Tulane, because if they don't lose 2 of their last 5 we can't win the west. There is also a good chance we won't win out and it will be irrelevant. USM worries me.
