It’s all about closing the deal now for UNT

For the first time in a long time, North Texas seems to have something going when it comes to its football program.

One could feel it on Saturday night after the Mean Green knocked off Louisiana Tech.

UNT’s players gathered in the corner of the field at Aillet Stadium and started familiar “North … Texas” back-and-forth cheer with a pretty sizable crowd of fans who made the trip.

The celebration in the locker room was a little more spirited as well, judging by what UNT’s players and coaches had to say.

And why not?

UNT has won back-to-back games for the first time since 2004 and has a pretty clear path to a bowl game, which would be its first since the Mean Green played in the New Orleans Bowl that same year.

Everything seems to be lining up for UNT this season, from the schedule to the way the Mean Green has remained relatively healthy to the way a host of key veteran players have performed.

The team loves this chant, it sounds great on TV...we HAVE to get it appropriately organized on the Jumbotron at Apogee. Seems like such a simple solution. Why think we're somehow above what the Mavs do at the AAC telling fans when to cheer for defense and the like? Who cares if it's educating fans? We're there to support the team not prove what "great" fan knowledge/skill we have because collectively, we don't. Even in the bowl era, one of my lasting memories was the attack on the Fouts Field goalposts prior to the end of the game.

I don't think it necessarily needs to be synch'd, but simply a message that serves as an encouragement/reminder to folks to get chanting. This keeps it from being half over before most even know it's going on.

If the cheerleaders get on the field again with their signs during a stoppage in play like they did during the MTSU game where it worked so well, then everyone should know it's happening. If you don't know it then, you're probably not going to know it if it were to show up on a jumbotron either.

The problem is when some rogue people try to start it up and actually get it going without being prompted... that's the problem you're talking about. Nothing you can do about that. It's like the wave.

What honestly was hilarious was to see the groupings of LaTech fans immediately to our left who would look at us with confused and dour expressions whenever the chant got going. It's like they had never heard an opposing fan base be that powerful before.

I got to thinking how it is at the end of the fight song everyone comes together and yells Fight, Fight, Fight and it's really loud. Well that ending would be a great chant into itself.

Love the UNT eagles chant idea. It only has to be done once at a time and there are multiple jump in opportunities. Easy to learn easy to execute. Recipe for success! I like the go north Texas go north Texas go go chant too but that works well with the band.
