I and others have said multiple times how much we were pleased about the win. A huge albatross has finally been lifted from this program and Mac and company deserve a ton of credit for this.

My only concern on the game was two fold. One, we again have a slow start on the road and shoot ourselves in the foot with the ill advised screen and INT. Against a rebuilding team like Tech - who is an absolute shadow of their former selves - you can make those types of starts and recover. We had to learn painfully that sometimes it doesn't work out for you (Tulane/Ohio) and against a better team you have to strike early a limit your mistakes. Why can't we come out on fire in a game? Why the slow starts?

Secondly, I know Mac praised the team for the long time consuming drive that ate up so much clock at the end but yielded no points. Again, it worked and due praise for the team for making it work in that game situation. My concern is against a team with a better QB and offense you better damn well get some points out of a drive like that or they will come back and make you pay for that strategy. I've said it before on here, I don't like the prevent defense and I grow wary whenever we start nursing a lead. Against La. Tech who has a freshman QB that they must bring along it makes sense but even still what if he caught fire there at the end of the game?

I will follow those pieces of constructive criticism with major praise -- I though the decision to punt the ball inside of their 50 was pure genius. Of course Macek's execution was superb as was Marcus Trice's fielding of the pinpoint punt. But then you force a weak offense and young QB to operate from inside their 5-yard line. I really thought that was a masterful coaching decision and many other coaches would have gone for it in that situation. I really felt that the game changed dramatically in our favor after that decision. GMG

As someone who came out to the game it is frustrating to watch your team just eat away at the clock in 4th the especially when style points count in college football. Coach Mac isn't one to run up the score I guess. It was awesome seeing the team come over to the visitor section and dance and have fun with everyone who made it out. Saw tons of green at the casinos both nights and the comradre was great! Even had a random woman with a non-UNT shirt come up and ask if we won and exclaim "Yes!" When I told her we did. She could have had money on us being in Shreveport but I'll take it!

Very slick reference, can I assume you know its origin? Haven't seen anybody throw it out there in a long time. The interwebz are reducing the literary capacity of recent generations.

I, for one, almost refused to come back to Texas after I saw the pristine condition of the three-color CUSA logo on LA Tech's field. Truly, they have passed us by.

I am an old man. I woke up got out of bed on Sunday morning and thought to myself, "Man, maybe those casinos should have clocks and closing times!"

Just more ramblins' and shootin' the bull...

Right now, we are a defensive team that probably has to score at least 1 TD for us to win against good teams. Also right now, we are a sometimes on/sometimes off offense. We have to have an "on offense" against Rice in 2 weeks.

Our North Texas offensive line has been tremendous and deserves all the praise it is getting even from opponents. Our entire offense has had its bright moments, too, but we just have to have better beginnings by both our offense and defense in all our future games.

I still think the skilled players part of our offense is in some semblance of a developmental stage even here at the half way

point of the season. I don't think our offense has played its best game yet and just hope they are saving it for our upcoming, much tougher opponents.

DT/#7 who I've been a supporter since last Spring/Summer must have a good game plan for him to be effective and for him to reach his maximum potential. When he's on--he's on...when he's not...he's not. (Where is Jerry Reed when you need him). :)

Screen passes for the time being have become a scary proposition. First part of the game brain freezes now seem to be the norm such as.............Interceptions thrown to opponents w/o a Mean Green receiver in sight First part of the game way over-thrown passes to open receivers seem to happen early on, too. Passes that bounce off receivers hands and become interceptions (not the QB's fault) seems to happen early on, too. Why we have these first part of the game way too conservative "playing not to lose" jitters beats the hell out of many of us. It is still not too late for all that to change, though. This Mean Green football team looks to be very coach-able.

When we play good teams all these 1'st part of the game heevie-jeevies have to stop or we won't have time to rebound from such mistakes (like in the Tulane game which was a game we really should have won which any unbiased fan would even probably agree).

On paper we should beat USM but last time I checked games are not played on paper. The Rice game is a toss up IMHO albeit Rice will probably be favored by a point or 2 in Las Vegas. Last time we played a CUSA Rice team was at Fouts. They had CUSA speed and talent and we did not so we got beat at home that night albeit was a close game.

:bling: I really think what kind of attendance we have at Apogee on Halloween Night is crucial for our team's success. We know it is very important for our coaches, our players and for darn sure all of us in each UNT-related constituency.

We need not have too many empty seats for the national TV cameras as they pan our crowd, especially in the Wing Zone. I hope this is being addressed by our top officials this week (and hopefully much of last week for that matter). A team effort by all of us on this attendance challenge I'm sure would be most appreciated by Rick V and Company.

No, UNT passed them by - Our team kicked their ass!

Forget about such silly things as how the C-USA logo looks on Apogee's field. Instead, just take a look at Apogee itself and enjoy.

Jeez!

That was a sarcastic reference to a comment made from our last home game. Apologies if you didn't catch it. A couple of us were joking that that would be the first comment after the game. This morning, I just couldn't resist. No. Really. You misinterpreted me there.

I'm contented with the win considering our recent history. It's a necessary baby step. Totally agree that the team hasn't completely arrived -- there was a 10 point deficit to the third worst team in the conference. As far as style wins are concerned, we get little to no benefit from that. Once the team winning back-to-back isn't a cause for celebration (deservedly so) then we can worry about margin of victory.

I rambled in more detail here.

We won. So, we're happy. No team plays the perfect game.

The kids are giving great effort. No one is blowing us out. We have been in every game, even the losses, with a realistic chace to win all of them.

As long as everyone is giving this type of effort, I don't see much room for complaint. Having the run game fixed has - and, will - cover a multitude of sins: Be able to run on offense, stop the run on defense, play effective and mistake free special teams = winning football in any era.

I feel sorry for the people who don't accept wins as wins, and instead want sexier wins. Sorry, this isn't a sexy team; it's a tough team. And, I'm happy that we choose tough over sexy when it comes to football. Finesse football is for fags.

Yes, we're old school and I'm okay with that. I have no lust for "exciting" Dodgeball. Been there done that.

Don't forget, the excitement is coming next year when we are essentially forced to put out a much more mobile guy that will have a better arm than DT. I love DT and he is a great game manager, but arm strength and accuracy are not the areas that make him a successful starting QB.

Love the D, accept that right now we are a grind it out and hammer you to the turf type team with a plodding offense that will wear you down. Next year hopefully we keep the D and add a little more razzle dazzle to the O.

Looks like someone started another negative thread before their brain fully engaged.

Sarcasm alert.

Thanks for the reply - my apologies to YOU. Having read your postings for several years I should have known better!

My only excuse for jumping on your post is that I am so programmed to the constant negativity of one person on this board - in particular - and a very few others.

I love my university and I personally think the AD (that is both position and department, along with our football team) is doing a helluva job - a HELLUVA job. To get where we all want to be usually takes baby-steps, and that often means many years of gradual progress..........and God knows I appreciate the impatience of some but also understand the reality that has faced this AD since the "reformation" began.

I was at UNT when we sucked with Rod Rust, flew to great heights (for us) with Hayden Fry, and fell back to earth again with our dropping to a lower division. I have watched adminstrative indifference, and I have watch us begin revival through the vision of several university presidents, and RV.

This crusty old alumnus knows where we have been over the past 40+ years, where we are now, and where we have a legitimate opportunity to go........and hopefully within my lifetime.

From where we were to where we are now, I have nothing but pride and will often defend those who got us here - and where one, in particular, smells puppy-farts as the basis for posting I will choose to smell puppy-breath. One has to go far, far back from just 1990 to understand where we have been and how fortunate we are to have advanced as far as we have over the past 10 - 12 years.

Thanks again for the response - again, my apologies for misinterpreting your comments.
