In the sunbelt yes. In CUSA likely not.

Hope you are correct...might take 7 for any team other than those in a BCS conference...or whatever it may be called going forward.

We need to ditch #hit6 and go with #hit9.

I like the optimism here...why not? Let's go with #hit9....always good to set a stretch goal.

And, of course, there is always a 3% chance of final judgement...so don't sweat the bowl thing.

Last year six win teams that went to a bowl:

SMU

Central Mighigan

VA Tech

Rice

Michigan State

Ole Miss

Duke

Minnesota

Air Force

Iowa State

Purdue

Pittsburgh

Plus.....North Texas would have a reputation with some bowl officials (who know such things) that we do travel fans to bowl games.

We did quite nicely on Tuesday nights back during the New Orleans Bowl era. What was it did the MGRN guys say on one YouTube, like 16K to 17K for one of those 9 hours away from the DFW Metroplex Tuesday night bowl games? Hello Bowl Officials!

I would still shoot for 7 wins as an insurance policy, though. And if all falls in place can we not see 7 wins as do-able now?

GMG!

:thumbsu: Dream Bowl Game? North Texas versus U of Iowa at the Cotton Bowl Stadium for Heart of Dallas Bowl Game. I think we would knock it out of the park with astounding numbers of traveling fans here in our backyard for that one.

UNT Alumnus Association Prez' KRAM1 and associates would have a field day registering long time gone alums who haven't been on our alma mater's mailing lists for decades, right, Mark? :)

2 CUSA teams won 6 regular season games last year. both went bowling. Both crushed their opponent.

2011 6-win CUSA teams:

Marshall (won bowl)

2010 6-win CUSA teams:

ECU (Lost bowl game)

UTEP (lost bowl game)

...I don't want to get hopes up (changing bowl contracts, etc) but since 2010 in CUSA, if you won 6 you went bowling. I did not look up anything prior to 2010. I thought that was interesting and spoke very highly of CUSA's bowl tie-ins/popularity.

THE HEART OF DALLAS BOWL!!!

Especially if we get to play IOWA. Great stories from both sides involving our current and former coach.

And, we make a huge statement in our own market concerning fan support.

Would absolutely love to see a UNT-Iowa match up in the Heart of Dallas Bowl! Perfect match up from a tradition perspective for the Mean Green considering Fry's legacy with both. How great would this be? About as great as it gets....that's how great!

Adler needs more colors.

Phil, colors is one of those acquired kind of deals, but once one gets over the dreaded TLS, ie, tiny letters syndrome it's simply amazing just who quickly the colors will come.

I'm afraid that to get an invitation to the Heart Of Dallas Bowl we will likely have to win out. Or, at the least, have as good a record as ECU, Marshall, or Rice.

The conference champion (ECU or Marshall?) will go to the Liberty Bowl. The HOD has the second largest payout and will likely go to the second best record. If we can match the ECU, Marshall and/or Rice record then I believe that we get chosen because we can sell more tickets.

Another contender could be Tulane. While it's rumored that they might prefer to stay at home and play in the New Orleans Bowl, that's pure speculation (but isn't the whole bowl picture?). If they play Louisiana that game should easily draw 45,000 but it doesn't have a large payout. So, if their record is better than ours they could be in Heart of Dallas scenario.

My take on the Heart of Dallas Bowl...9-3 likely; 8-4 possibly; anything else...another bowl.

Heart of Dallas bowl goes to the #4 C-USA team. Right now we are #5 = Beef O' Brady Bowl.

Of course there is flexibility on that, but I don't think we have to win out to go to Dallas.

BTW, Armed Forces Bowl in Ft. Worth is more prestigious (IMO).

I see everybody on here wants us to go to the Heart of Dallas bowl, but do you think the kids want to go to the Heart of Dallas bowl? If I was a player I would want to go elsewhere. Everyone one of these kids can go to Dallas anytime they want. I would want to go somewhere away from home, somewhere different where they have never been before.

Isn't the Beef O' Brady out here in AZ? That would be awesome. Then I could go and all of you would have to visit :)

I don't know about Gray Eagle's point about records, though. I think the bowl committee will look at likely ticket sales. They get the pick, not the conference rank...so if we haven't already been snatched up, I don't think we would necessarily need to match the records of those teams. If they consider another CUSA team, they will probably look at their regular season travel numbers...and if they aren't great, they will want to maximize profits via ticket sales and give us the berth.

I just hope we don't go to the Hawai'i Bowl until at least next year. It's one of my 14 remaining states to visit, and I'm $3K behind where I wanted to be right now on my 10-year plan that I'm pushing to make up. So my #1 pick is HOD so all of you can go and make a big statement in terms of numbers and fan support, and my #2 pick is BOB if it's here in AZ, of course.

Besides the liberty bowl, the other bowls are based on choice, not rank.

HoD has the 4th pick, they do not have to take the 4th ranked team.

The Hawaii Bowl typically goes to the loser of the C-USA Championship game. I think it's a terrible bowl - Christmas Eve Day in a location most folks can't afford to go with two weeks notice.
