DENTON, Texas Senior Brelan Chancellor, one of the most prolific return specialists in the nation, was named to Phil Steels 2013 Midseason first-team All-American as the kick returner. Chancellor, who was named to the magazines All-C-USA team in three different positions earlier this week, is one of only two players from Conference USA on the first-team.

Chancellor is averaging 31.6 yards a kick return that includes a 99-yard touchdown return against No. 9 Georgia. He is averaging 19.3 yards a punt return with returns of 62, 55 and 48 yards this season. Chancellor is the only player in the nation in the top-10 in both kick and punt returns this season.

On Tuesday Chancellor was named to All-C-USA first-team as a kick returner and second team as a wide receiver and punt returner.

Chancellor has three kickoff returns for a touchdown in his career. He is the active career leader in multiple categories nationwide. Chancellor is the nations active leader in kickoff return yards a game (78.5) and kickoff returns per game (3.2). Chancellor is second in the nation among active players with 2,747 kickoff return yards.

I've probably spent 2+ hours watching the Georgia return over and over, time I don't consider wasted.

Heheheh..."I've got him!" "Me too!"...WHAM!

big congrats to Chancellor...

now as much as i hope he gets the honor at the end of the year, i hope he only has one kick return per game from here on out

then he could up his punt return yards instead

Congrats to Brelan! Remember those pre-season picks? I think, at a min., Chancellor and Orr have big time shots at post-season honors.

And, they are not the only ones with post-season honor possibilities. Win, go bowling and surely these guys will see post-season recognition. Make the voters pay attention...way to go. Make it happen on the field.

I'll admit...and I think a lot of you were in the same boat...that we signed a 5'8" 165 athlete to help lure his 6'0" 210 tailback teammate.

Congrats to Brelan...I can't recall a player in my time following UNT who has me expecting something special every time he touches the ball.

Now...let's get him the ball more.

Oh yes. The Chancellor kid was a handcuff for the big Byrd. Byrd has worked out well, but boy has Chancellor surprised in every way.

The three guys who stick out in my mind as guys who ran hard until being brought down (not just hit) in my time of following UNT are Quinn, Thomas, & Chancellor. It seems like it takes 2-3 guys (or more) to bring him down, every time.

I was thinking about this the other day. I thought Brelan had a chance to be an All-American if he continues his current pace on returns. I can't remember the last time NT had a player named to the All-Anerican team?

Was Jamario named to the freshman All-American team?

I think what you've touched on here with Brelan is a big part of what draws many of us to the program despite the fact it isn't a UT or OU type of Billion dollar machine...

We do not get the cream of the crop recruits; we are not the darling of the recruiting services however these services often overlook one key component and that is the heart and desire of a student athlete.

And so a guy like Brelan gets overlooked because of his size etc; Zach Orr because of an injury... Patrick Cobbs, Andy Brewster -- the list goes on. As North Texas fans we get the delight of watching these guys prove the critics wrong. At the same time a program like Texas that gets the top national recruits every single year seems to falter. Why because the recruiting services can't measure heart and desire.

The Gosselein article just confirmed what many of us already knew - for a VERY long time this program was run in name only and not given the proper support and funding. We have certainly turned a major corner in that regard over the past 3-4 years. And that could put us in the position of being a legitimate D-I program that has to be reckoned with in the future.

If you have been a long suffering North Texas fan or if you are new to the scene it is certainly an extremely exciting to be a part of this program.

Something sad to think about .... how much longer will teams actually keep kicking to him?

I've seen him run over to the other side of the end zone in order to field a kickoff several times. The only way to avoid kicking to him on kickoffs is to put it out of the back of the endzone, squib it, or kick it out of bounds.

For punts: he can get under any punt, no matter where they put it... unless it's out of bounds.
