A couple of thoughts on this. We all lament losing this senior class, and there is no question that it plays heavily into the success we have seen this season. But wasn't it just a year or so ago when we had like what 6 seniors in the entire class? Having a large, productive senior class is a good sign for your program.

In terms of raw numbers the big changeover comes in 2015 when we lose 31 juniors.

Only one player in the true freshman class is playing significantly (Darvin Kidsey). That means, most likely Mac will again redshirt the majority of his freshman class.

In terms of jucos and transfers the results have been mixed. Guard/Center Shawn McKinney has been productive. Corner James Jones is a bonafide star-- all conference caliber player. TE Chris Loving redshirted. Corner DQ Johnson has not played very much. End Quenton Brown was injured but is expected to have a big impact once he returns. QB Brock Berglund has not seen the field and Darius Terrell has a TD in limited snaps. Zed Evans plays a lot on special teams and in some pass coverages. Big tackle Justin Manu wasn't eligible.

I guess my point is that while we lose a LOT in this senior class in terms of leadership and ability/results we have numbers coming through the ranks. Having a great strength and conditioning program and redshirting young players so they can reach their full potential softens the blow a program can feel when a good class is moving on.

It is nice to be near the scholarship maximum, but I don't think it is a good sign that so few of the underclassmen are substantially contributing. For example, this was supposed to be the year; that the offensive line was much deeper; yet he is basically playing 6 men just like last year.

As far as redshirts, freshmen that I believe have already lost those are Williams, Scott, Schelleci, Melugin, Kidsey, Flusche, Ellis and Davis or about half. Yes, there can be hardship waivers still, but let's not get into that again.

Defensively we'll lose some stars in Orr and Trice. Chancellor will be a huge loss and Darnell Smith has been huge this year as well. My hope is that Skladany and his system returns which will be the 3rd year for the system. It might make the transition of some of the younger players coming up a little easier and seamless.

As for the offnse, the encouraging thing is we will basically have our entire OLine back plus 2 RBs that are significant contributors. (I would argue Peagram has been our most consistant) Carlos Harris showed flashes last year as a freshman in Brelan's absence. I think the rest of our WR core has shown some potential as well. I feel good about our offense and of course the QB battle will be front and center. The positives being....our offense will have a new dynamic next year regardless if it's Williams, Berglund or McNulty.....we will have more of a dual threat QB under center next year. Not that DT has had a bad year, but we will have a new wrinkle next year....

Mac loves playing upperclassmen and starting guys with the most experience. He also doesn't do a whole lot of lineup shuffling. The lineup that started the first game against LSU last year was almost the exact lineup that started the last game against WKU, save for receivers after losing Brelan and having Harris and D Smith overtake Bynes. This year the only switch has been at cornerback and that'll probably be the only change all year.

For the rest of the time that Mac is here you will see a high percentage of our starters being upperclassmen. He hasn't brought in the highest rated recruits and until he does he will develop the young players until it is their turn to start.

Schilleci.... S-Chill ICE backwards.;) And yes he is starting on 3 special teams.

I wouldn't hold my breath on Williams. A little birdie told me that he will probably be a hardship/ medical whatever anyone wants to call it...

You introduced yourself at the beginning of the season, met with about 500 responses of ,"Hey, how you doin'?" I don't remember your relationship to John. Brother? Nephew?

I agree on this, but only if that senior class produces a winning season, and as you build the program, conference championships.

Can we? Will we?

It all starts in 2 days.

I hope the exception is QB, otherwise we all know what that means for next year...

That's not exactly rocket science. THE recruits have definitely improved over the past couple of years for North Texas. If you know what you're talking about (and they aren't just recruiting anyone who wants to come and play) our new recruits have been recruited for more than just the availability/competitive talent to play RIGHT NOW. This isn't the NFL. There's a big big difference in a 18 year old whois an awesome high school athlete and shows collegiate potential in speed, strength and agility and a 21 to 22 year old that the program has had the ability to mold for a couple of years. And they quite possibly recruit players for a different positions that they hold in high school.

If you base your intelligence strictly off of rivals and Yahoo Sports, you're missing significant details.

I love it! Hope John has the fiery intensity to prove the recruiting websites that you do. Actually, that's probably where you got that from.

Personally, I factor in a player's offer list, film, and his recruiting site rankings in that offer with the first two subject to alternation. I trust a player's offer list before I trust my personal evaluation of his film, because I cede that I am not a professional talent evaluator. Just a college kid who played in high school and has watched college football obsessively since I was 7.

When a player has been recruited over it means that a player has been passed on the depth chart by a younger player. Some freshman come in bigger and/or faster than a 21 or 22 year old could ever get. This is a good thing for the program and means that recruiting is improving. An example is Darvin Kidsy playing over seniors like Pleasant and Caldwell. Cyril Lemon starting as a true freshman is another example. John playing as a freshman is an example too, make no mistake about it.

Diamond in the roughs are great to have, especially the ones that pan out. But it's also great to get highly-rated guys who a lot of people want and can contribute early like Zach Orr and Cyril Lemon.

Love it all you want but talking crap about recruits and our recruiting standards does nothing but help hurt our program. He and OUR RECRUITS don't need your subpar high school expertise or recruiting websites to know where he needs to be. It does however, hinder hinder relationships that these parents and family members form with our staff and our university when you publicly slander them. I know as fact that our players and our recruits read this forum. Please be mindful of that as you post.

As a side note: not all offers are exposed publicly. And if you're judging strictly on film I would revise past statements on SEVERAL RECRUITED PLAYERS THREADS.

Wait...

I thought you were the official height/weight measurer for Rivals?

So confused.
