I've been impressed with Jermaine Jones' play. Today, he was everywhere, and many of the offensive opportunities came off of his play.

Bradley still a little careless with the ball, but that longball over the back line to a streaking Jones was one of the offensive bright spots of the game.

Initial thoughts of the game were more about how bad we looked chasing the ball every where.

Then I shifted into, "Germany might actually be that good" mode. Are they not?

Everything about their possession, particularly passing and dribbling, looked ridiculously well tuned and timed.

sorry...that wasn't directed at you despite the quoted text. I've seen the idea floated about...I think even Twellman mentioned it during the broadcast.

Twellman is a smug jack wagon. In fact, MOST american soccer commentators (at least at the National level) are all jack wagons. Wynalda is fun in the studio, but put him in the booth and he's too much. I can stand some of the regional MLS guys. FCD's are ok....but man, I do miss Bobby Rhine. Used to heckle him as a player, but dangit-- he was much better behind a mike.

*note: used to heckle Twellman and his pink shoes, too....

Belgium is very dangerous on paper but also very green. Did not look impressive in their group, seemed to play down to their competition a little. I feel better about our chances against them than I did before the start of the tournament.

Went through some ESPN videos. One of them talked about Belgium and how, though they are talented individually, they are not a good team.

Like, not as good as any of the teams we played in our Group. We'll see.

Fair statement to make I think. I mean, just look at some of their players, there's certainly some star power there.

Don't wanna post it here because it's really crass....but Triumph the Insult Comic Dog's take on the World Cup/fans was freaking hysterical. Look it upon youtube.

I saw that same video, and have heard other talking heads proclaim the same thing. Then Belgium won all 3 of their games in group play. Talk is talk. When it came time to make plays and win games, the Belgians did what they needed to do. They conceded just one goal, and have a solid defense. They will be very hard to beat.

And we still care more about poor people than FIFA.

We could send them all to Qatar. I hear good things.
