I really don't think I can think of another defense that hits like we do.

Like, our team isn't as fast or as good at coverage as a lot of teams but the difference maker is that insane hitting skill we have. Even a wide open catch isn't a guarantee because they just *rock* the opposing team.

At the beginning of the broadcast, they pointed out that UNT has won all 6 coin tosses this year. When they elected to give MTSU the first possession, I heard something like, "Is that a good idea?" with the response, "The way this defense has been playing, I think it's a very good idea to take the first possession of the second half. We'll see if Middle Tennessee is up to facing this North Texas defense." I'm paraphrasing, but I think it's safe to say that the word is out and everyone is extremely aware of what our D can do.

I assume the original question on this thread is about this year. But I have to tell you. Of the North Texas defenses that I have watched since the 60's this one hits as hard, if not harder, than anyone I've watched. Including the ones featuring Booger. Before last night THE hardest hitting game I've watched at North Texas was the 1986 NT/TCU game.

Not just the hardest hitting, but also the surest tackling team we have seen around these parts in years.

After those Todd Dodge defenses, we deserve this and much more.

I said it in an earlier thread, but we have to be careful about unnecessary hits. I think the Ballstate whining has brought attention to us and I'm sure all of the opposing coaches are talking to the refs before the game about our hits.

It hurt us last week in getting the questionable calls on the sidelines. We've got to keep hitting hard, but nothing that gets us a reputation as being dirty.

I haven't seen the kick return hit, so don't know what happened there, but I assume it was something unnecessary.

the fact that if an opposing defense throws a screen and i already know that whoever gets there is NOT going to miss a tackle shows you where this team is at...

Buyers, Jones, Whitfield, Hilbert all make sure tackles

Lee and Trice have delivered some bone crunchers(did anybody get a hangtime on that receiver who flew out of the endzone)?

You assume wrong. The kick return hit was clean and hard, right on the center chest. He got hit so hard that his head jolted a couple of times because it was still going forward while his body was stopped.

From now on, whenever a team, player, or coach from the opposing team stars complaining about our hard hits, all of us in the stands should start chanting, "(school) has a mangina."

So happy to be reminded of that play. That was a very big play.

I don't care if we're seen as dirty.

This is Mac ball. Old school, gritty, smash mouth D that rarely gets played anymore, and I love it. Puts the Mean in Mean Green.

You know that our reputation will put second thoughts into the WRs and RBs trying to make that extra play.

I know it's half way through the season, but this defense deserves it's own section of fans. it'd be cool if 100 or more students came together and get shirts made up with "hit squad" or tombstones on them. maybe a nt football helmet with forearms crossed in a x like some of the players do after a big hit, kind of like a skull and cross bones shirt.
