unlike most of you.... I grew up in the Denton area and have had numerous friends play for the football team. Back it up.

SO I haven't invested countless years of b******* and whining with you guys. But I'm not going to get into a pissing match on who's the bestest fan.

You're not? You sure about that?

I first heard about North Texas when a family member committed to play football here under Simon. That person has been an alumnus for a long time now but I am still a fan. It doesn't hurt that I have a couple of degrees from here, but the fact is that the vast majority of friends/family of players stop following the program as soon as that family member or friend leaves.

I wish that wasn't true, I wish every Letterman felt a life long bond with the university and their friends and family stuck around. But that doesn't happen most of the time. SSP, if you are a fan five years after those you know have left the program, I'll be impressed, and you'll be in the minority.

SO I haven't invested countless years of b******* and whining with you guys. But I'm not going to get into a pissing match on who's the bestest fan.

Actually that is exactly what you are doing. You may not realize it, but when you rag on someone who isn't positive 100% of the time you are saying "I am a better fan than you because I am positive." This program floundered for decades, then we found a little success, then we let a personal battle get between the head of the department and the most important program blow up in our faces, and now we have floundered for damn near another decade. How can you not see people are tired of "stay positive, its obviously getting better, only an idiot can't see that."

There have been dozens of those friends/family members with that message on this board since it came online, and almost none of them are around the program anymore. Hell, at one point, I was one of them. Following this program can disillusion you. But I am still here, supporting this program 100%, if I choose to harp on something because I want it fixed. I have the right to do that. I have that right because I have spent a ton of time and money trying to get those problems fixed.

This is your 1st year around here. After you witness 100 more games like Tulane, you'll be Mini UNT90. You'll come over to the dark side eventually. It's part of being a UNT athletics fan/donor. We all live for the annual kick to the scrote.

Ahem. In this scenario, I believe you mean the "proverbial" scrote.

LOL.

The swelling of hypocrisy on here never ceases to amaze me,

Super, another person who "will be damned" if he has to sit on here and listen to passive aggressive jabs..... lol. Is it only for the optimistic people that you would feel the need to call out? So, if you want to be a Debbie Downer and talk about only the things that suck, welcome aboard... But if you have the NERVE to think we still have a chance to make some good things happen this year... ohhh... the horror!!!!!!!! How dare they!?

The attitude that just because you have endured crap past seasons, it entitles you to higher opinion is funny too.

BOTTOM LINE, Scott, is that WE WERE A BETTER TEAM THAN TULANE. EVEN TULANE KNEW IT. How we show up on game days, that's another story. So, you can all save the repetitive posts on how we are 2-3 and the road record for someone else. And yes, I was there. We played like crap. And I don't think we need anyone else to point it out like it's news.

I didn't say we would beat anyone. I said I'd puke if we didn't win. And I did. So, get get yourself a Snickers. I never said we were going to beat La Tech. BUT we are a better team. And maybe.... just maybe... there is a possibility that I may have an insight into that because I do have a family member playing on game days. But, crap... I guess that makes my POV invalid.

And, I'd be obliged to have you point out where I chastised anyone for thinking we wouldn't have a 9-3 record this season. I don't even remember thinking that.

The fact that I repetitively read and respond to the diarrhea that gets slung around this board is kinda funny. You don't have to worry about it being taken too seriously. I had the honor to meet a few posters this past weekend, even 90. And it seems like his dark side lives on this forum. I was expecting an A. So, I'm pretty sure the King of Zings on this forum is aware that my reply was to be taken lightly.

Good post. I'd just ask, though....are we really a better team than Tulane? Or are we about equals? I know, I know, they had a terrible record last year. Their previous wins this year can be explained away by being gifted too many turnovers, right? The fact is that they have some athletes on the defensive line and in their secondary. They play some decent defense and try to force mistakes. Their offense is inconsistent. Special teams are good in some areas, bad in others. Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

What is such a beating about that game is HOW we lost it. But Tulane was never the cream puff---at least relative to UNT---that so many on this board thought they were. Maybe I'm wrong, but if I had to guess, I'd guess that your family member being on our defense and scouting the Tulane offense had something to do with the feeling that we were so much better. No question, our defense is better than their offense. It was proven on the field. But I'd also guess that those Tulane defenders weren't exactly frightened of our offense after watching film.

When you don't score an entire first half, have 11 penalties and allow a FG block TD and only lose by 3.... Yeah. I'd say we GAVE the game to them, as only the better team can. Tulane's fans couldn't believe how well they did. AND THEY WON BY 3. We didn't show up. It happens. Our history doesn't help the tension. I agree. I do not agree with the thought that talents were matched. I haven't been a fan of this offense consistently. Something DOES NEED TO CHANGE.

This is a better team with a better mentality than it has had over the past 8 years. Most things are mental, so I find that a significant step forward. We botched the game last week and it feels like this team not only doesn't know how to win, but we are literally, SLOWLY AND PAINFULLY watching wheels turn as they try to figure out what kind of team they actually are.

Time will tell. If only we can develop some sort of positive consistency. I definitely think that it isn't a talent issue that we keep us from a bowl game. There's a lot of issues that need to be fixed.

Gah, I hope not.

NO, I'm actually not. I'm not beating my chest because I have a fresher perspective. I'm getting sick of certain posters thinking that years of being butt hurt gives them a higher sense of realism when it's exactly the opposite. And some posters are ridiculously UN-positive 100% OF THE TIME. And that's cool. We are on 2 opposing sides of a biased outlook. Whatever. This is the place where happy thoughts go to die. I get it.

Until we quit finding ways to lose close games I don't see how you can say we're any better now than we've been for the longest time. It's what we've always done and we're still at it. We're still only (thus far) beating the teams we certainly should beat at home. We still don't win coins flip games on the road. We're still (at this point) just us.

Right on. I know SSP is the only female crazy enough to post in the land of a thousand sausages. It definitely was just a figure of speech. Kick to the scrote, stick in the eye, KY-less reaming, it all means the same thing.

Sorry, didn't mean to come across as negative. Don't get me confused with the doom and gloomers on here. I'm prone to my fairshare, but I know that I'm looking at the best football team that UNT has fielded in almost a decade. I wish they'd stop beating themselves. But I also think that the flip side to that is that the Tulane defense kicked our @sses in that first half, and forced the mistakes in the second half that they needed to take the game away from us. Just giving credit, where I think it's due.

Never knew we had numerous players out of Denton. That's always been one of the many complaints around here. Well, in the 1AA days we did have quite a few from Pilot Point, Sanger and such, but Dentonites have always seemed to be few and far between. At least relative to what we would like.

I said Denton area. I didn't say I only have friends in the Denton area. And there are actually 3 Denton Guyer guys on the roster. I think one quit this year, though.

This. 1000 times this. If SSP sticks around 5 years, she will be posting just as I am today.

She will realize that no matter how bad our programs are or how bad attendance gets, RV is a lifer at AD because he has the right friends.

She will be lied to countless times: about club seating, about always having 6 home games, about a new and exciting offense.

She will begin to realize that the few fans of this athletic program care more about it than anyone at the university.

Then she will post like I do.

If she is still here, that is.

Sometimes I find it amazing that we get any new posters to stick around any longer than a few days. There is just far too much "you are new here, so let me explain to you why your opinion doesn't matter."

On a related note, it is already amazing to me that SSP has stuck around here this long given the general condescending response to females on this board.

Man, tell me that's not how you think of this place.

Nah, just joking around.

This really is a place where the most dedicated NT fans congregate. I love being part of this place. It's helped my NT fandom grow, regardless of the crap we've been subjected to the last decade. :)

She's very capable of fighting her own battles.

And pretty much every new poster gets tested, male or female. It's a message board, after all. Don't be too sensitive. She isn't.

Check some other fan boards, not a lot of female activity really. Our board is really pretty tame, believe it or not.

What are you talking about? Females don't get looked down around here, they get white knighted to death.

Guys, it cool, just because she doesn't have a Y chromosome, it doesn't mean we have to treat her like a special flower. She is obviously tough enough to argue with other football nerds on the internet. Treat her like you would any other poster.

I've been a lurker for quite a while. I can't say I'm surprised by the negativity as it seems to be cancerous around these parts. I have been a little disheartened at how quick everyone is to spread their misery however. The frustration is real, I get it. But does that mean we have to piss on everyone with a little hope (however much we perceive it to be misplaced)?
