And you can now add an inferior Tulane team to that list.

Don't think that they were inferior.Pehaps we were overated. Line 1st of week was "pick em", then moved to Tulane +3. Bottom line is that we cannot give up 2 defensive touchdowns and beat anyone left on our schedule.

UNT beat UNT, but hey, we only lost by 24 to Georgia so we're supposed to be great. Sloppy play for us. 6 wins is suddenly far from reach as well as the west.

six wins was out of reach before the first game.

This team plays well at home. I'm still expecting 6 wins.

The unnerving part is knowing this team is better than what we saw yesterday.

9 win teams don't have something like 15 penalties and doesn't give up 14 points without the other teams offense ever taking the field.

Pray for 6. I mean, that is the coach's goal, after all.

I may be alone here -- and I've not yet had a chance to re-watch the game -- but I think our defense is pretty danged good; that's McCarney's strong suit. The offense seems to be the issue (accounted for 14 Tulane points, yesterday).

This team is better than the record indicates. How much better, I don't know. Here's to a great game next Saturday against a former rival.

We didn't play very well and as usual, there's some play calling concern, but the game pretty much boiled down to two big plays that gave up 14 quick points.

We should have won this game and we would have if it had been a 5 quarter game. We simply ran out of time after having our usual slow start and then giving away 2 scores.

I'm really bummed about this loss, since it shows that we really aren't as good as our hopes had led us to believe. As others have said, we really need to be successful this year since we will be losing a lot of seniors and we had a good chance given our favorable schedule. I think the worst part of this game is that we had the extra week off and still came out flat.

Why do we always spot the opponents about 11 minutes of the first quarter? Also, I am sure the home crowd noise at the Superdome unnerved our players....4,000 people can sure make a lot of noise.

11 minutes? How about the 1st half??

Yesterday, NT gave them 2.5 qtrs!

Frustrating....

Our lack of rushing yards should be a huge concern. Our backs may not be great, but they are better than that.

Couldn't locate his road record but with a stellar overall record of 56-85 and 27-68 conference record I wouldn't expect a whole lot better.

Completely agree. I am not sure why so many get upset at the results when you look overall at his record.

He only turned a perennial bottom feeder that belonged in FCS into bowl champions at the height of Big 12 dominance, right? 43-36 (18 of those losses coming on two poor seasons due to graduating seniors) during the 2000-2006 years, right?

So, before Mac, they had never won a bowl game and had only been to four. Mac took them to 5 bowl games, beating their former total, winning 2 of them. Most of the Iowa State bowls have come in the 2000-after era, thus indicating that Mac built a solid foundation.

Iowa State's bowl games:

December 18, 1971 Sun Bowl L LSU 15 33 December 18, 1972 Liberty Bowl L Georgia Tech 30 31 December 31, 1977 Peach Bowl L NC State 14 24 December 20, 1978 Hall of Fame Classic Bowl L Texas A&M 12 28 December 28, 2000 Insight.com Bowl W Pittsburgh 37 29 December 27, 2001 Independence Bowl L Alabama 13 14 December 31, 2002 Humanitarian Bowl L Boise State 16 34 December 28, 2004 Independence Bowl W Miami (OH) 17 13 December 31, 2005 Houston Bowl L TCU 24 27 December 31, 2009 Insight Bowl W Minnesota 14 13 December 30, 2011 Pinstripe Bowl L Rutgers 13 27 December 31, 2012 Liberty Bowl L Tulsa 17 31

I mean, Lane Kiffin is a great head coach, right? 35-21! THAT'S A GOOD RECORD, GUYS! Just go ahead and tell me how Romo is a great QB because he THREW FOR 500 YARDS! STATS DON'T LIE!

You do realize that we lose a butt load of seniors this year, right? So we will face one of those great Mac "rebuilding" years next year.

Just another built in excuse for Mac to reach the magical, mystical year 4 of his contract.

If we don't win this year, we don't win next year, which may be a 2 win season.

Same ole sane ole.

I am expecting a weak season next year but see an 8 win season on the horizon this year.

These same players who you mention have gotten us to what a 5 win, 3 win and 4 win season in the Belt? Hey man there are some good players but this isn't like what we lost in 2004:

Brewster

Blount

Howard

Cobbs

Hall

Pruitt

Priestly

Caldwell

Awasom

Buckles

Knowlton

That's a group of guys that won a LOT of games and proved VERY difficult to replace.

As soon as we run out of Dodge's leftovers this thing is really going to be screwed. That's what's saddest to me.

Yep, we haven't been lighting it up in recruiting. Classes rated at the mid to bottom of the Sun Belt the last couple of years.

This is the year, or else this thing is going to be off the rails for the next couple. That is the dirty little secret of the football program.

Yeah, I don't agree with that. I think there are some really good players coming up.
