LongJim, not calling you out, but would love to know who you like coming up? Mainly because I'm concerned in this area. Thanks

Well, I will put in my two cents. Among players who have contributed already this year, we have Kayton Kirby, Darvin Kidsey, Blake Macek, Austin Orr, Chad Polk and Connor Tussell. Among those who the staff have called promising for the future are: Mark Dilonga, Sed Ellis, Andy Flusche, Trevor Melugin, Sid Moore, Jarrian Roberts and Dutton Watson. I'm sure there are a few others that qualify as well, but those are the ones I either heard about or have seen in action. Most are freshmen, with a couple of sophs thrown in the mix.

Calvin Minor, Turner Smiley, John Schilleci, Flusche, Chad Davis, umm.... Kidsy, for crying out loud!! Kaydon Kirby, Fred Scott......

I am really having a hard time understanding the recruiting argument. if you're comparing 18/ 19 year old kids to a 25 year old grown man who has played football five more years.... hmm. Yeah. sounds like a legit argument. These incoming freshman are going to continue to develop for the next several years and we've been getting a heck of a lot better recruits than we have in the past. most of these recruits aren't coming here because of the brand of UNT. They're coming because of Mac. You guys need to go take some Advil and get rid of these hangovers that you are still harboring.

I think everyone should go look at the La. Tech board immediately before their first game this year.

I bet you would see the same type of posts as you see above.

That is what I think.

I bet you get a paper cut and think you're going to bleed to death. LaTech comparison? Really? You are better than that, 90.

Yes, really. Take your homerism out of it, and the loss of senior starters is very comparable.

I would trade the success we have had since 2006 for the success that LA Tech has had. It's a no brainer.

I don't disagree that seniors will be missed. I just see a lot of players that are really talented, and actually BIG ENOUGH to play, and others that are already making contributions.

Just need to win some games.

I don't think losing seniors is going to be as big a deal as some make it out to be. We need to see new blood at key positions if we're ever going to expect change, IMO.

We will miss chancellor. Orr and trice as far as leadership. Everybody else can be replaced without much drop off. Wallace the transfer may be able to fill in nicely for Orr. The secondary, one of the biggest issues will return buyers and Jjones. They will continue to improve the rest of this season, go through another spring, and be a solid strength going into next year. No drop off at corner. We should field a faster, better covering defense next season.

Offense. Lose brelan, but upgrade QB that allows us to do much more.

It is ludicrous to think this offense is going to open up next year because we have a different QB. That is what this staff said in 2011, last year, and right up to the season. If BB was the answer AND they wanted to open up the offense, he would be starting. Not saying Brock is not the answer, I have only seen a few plays of him in practice. As for Mac, his actions up to now show that he is not going to change his conservative ways. But with this predictable scheme, it does not make any difference who the quarterback is. Sure, we might see a few great plays, but over an entire season, no difference.

Agreed, Brelan is a huge loss and a talent not easily replaced. Orr & Trice are big losses as well but I'm fully expecting to see several players step up to help fill the voids on defense.

The seniors have to be exhausted. They've been working so hard for 3+ years to turn this thing around, and some of these old ghosts just won't go away.

Tough tough loss, but this season isn't over.

The seniors that should be speaking up the most are the ones on offense. You would think this is thier last year, and they should want to win games and be part of a dymamic offense. They should want to be trusted with the outcome of games. Brelan and Thompson are soft spoken. Not sure about the TEs. Darnell Smith shows his frustration. I would hope these seniors would get together and just have a meeting with the coaches and say lets open this offense up.

The defensive front seven that held Tulane to 10 points must all be replaced next year.

Outside of Akune and Austin Orr I have not seen a lot of the future stepping it up much.

And this doesn't even speak for the leadership we lose on the field.

I've said all along. This is a senior laden team. It's now or never.

Time for Mac to earn his pay and go get a JC DT, 3 star minimum talent based on his reputation as a "defensive line specialist". In fact, he should be working on that RIGHT NOW. Scratch that. He should have been working on in for the past 6 months.

...somehow when you were the one in here telling those of us who have suffered along with this program for decades that we were being fools for not accepting your prediction of a 9-3 season and that Tulane was a push over, coming into yet another thread acting flippant is pretty damned silly.

Bottom line, we have NO ROOM to act like we are better than ANY PROGRAM until we prove that we are. We play Louisiana Tech THERE. ...and based on the road record posted above, there is NO GUARANTEE we win that game. ...or even this week at MTSU. There is little to no consistency. Stupid penalties. A QB who is trying hard but just can't get it done, a defensive secondary who gives up the good plays. I challenge you other than the fact that the little pennant on our jerseys now says C-USA instead of SUNBELT who ANY of what I just listed above is different than it was through virtually the entire Dodge era. Replace Derrick with Riley and list everything I just did, and you're watching a Dodge football team.

...and UNTIL we PROVE otherwise, I'll root and be a fan and have my hopes rise and fall with the fortunes of our team, but I'll be damned if I'm going to have anyone come in here and tell me that we're better than ANY program that we haven't yet beaten.

Welcome to North Texas football, THIS is how it has been for DECADES, and until there is track record that those days are behind us, why don't you quit taking down to people who are being cautious? Thanks.

You clearly don't have an eighteen year old family member on the team feeding you exciting information.

LOL.

The swelling of hypocrisy on here never ceases to amaze me,

Super, another person who "will be damned" if he has to sit on here and listen to passive aggressive jabs..... lol. Is it only for the optimistic people that you would feel the need to call out? So, if you want to be a Debbie Downer and talk about only the things that suck, welcome aboard... But if you have the NERVE to think we still have a chance to make some good things happen this year... ohhh... the horror!!!!!!!! How dare they!?

The attitude that just because you have endured crap past seasons, it entitles you to higher opinion is funny too.

BOTTOM LINE, Scott, is that WE WERE A BETTER TEAM THAN TULANE. EVEN TULANE KNEW IT. How we show up on game days, that's another story. So, you can all save the repetitive posts on how we are 2-3 and the road record for someone else. And yes, I was there. We played like crap. And I don't think we need anyone else to point it out like it's news.

I didn't say we would beat anyone. I said I'd puke if we didn't win. And I did. So, get get yourself a Snickers. I never said we were going to beat La Tech. BUT we are a better team. And maybe.... just maybe... there is a possibility that I may have an insight into that because I do have a family member playing on game days. But, crap... I guess that makes my POV invalid.

And, I'd be obliged to have you point out where I chastised anyone for thinking we wouldn't have a 9-3 record this season. I don't even remember thinking that.

The fact that I repetitively read and respond to the diarrhea that gets slung around this board is kinda funny. You don't have to worry about it being taken too seriously. I had the honor to meet a few posters this past weekend, even 90. And it seems like his dark side lives on this forum. I was expecting an A. So, I'm pretty sure the King of Zings on this forum is aware that my reply was to be taken lightly.

And you'll probably be here after that family member graduates.

unlike most of you.... I grew up in the Denton area and have had numerous friends play for the football team. Back it up.

SO I haven't invested countless years of b******* and whining with you guys. But I'm not going to get into a pissing match on who's the bestest fan.

This is the same ole same ole, nothing new, nothing exciting except a 20 point loss to GA. Damn we have very low standards and are STILL dissappointed. Need better recruitment. How do we do that?
