Hope Benford starts proving us wrong, but the first thing I thought when I saw Combs committed is that he could be a good building block for our next head coach. Either way, very excited about this pickup.

This was exactly my first thought, followed shortly after by memories of Trilli's great recruiting classes that he also couldn't coach.

Welcome aboard Jeremy.

I'm also curious as to how his game stacks up against Jordan's & Greg's. Their H.S. highlights all look the same. They're all about the same size. I'm excited to see what Greg does this year, and it will be interesting having Jordan, Greg, and Jeremy on the floor at the same time in 2014-15.

Up Next: Keenan Evans please. Going to need someone to step up for CJ.

Also keep in mind the forgotten man on the roster TJ Taylor could be here for awhile as well, especially if he gets a medical hardship for last year which he should!

I'm intrigued to see what this team looks like this year -- it's like a completely different roster and different types of players.

For sure. But TJ is a 6'4" guard. He's a sharpshooter too. He's a different player from the other 3.

I'd like to hear what differences each 6'7" SF brings to the table. (I.e.: different strengths/weaknesses).

EDIT: Cooley chimed in above as I was writing this... any other thoughts Cooley?

Is it just me, or does the end quote sum up how bad a state our basketball program is and show how little we have to pitch to recruits?

The end quote/thing he says that stands out about how he views us and why he committed to us is "I like that North Texas is going to conference USA."

Hope Benford starts proving us wrong, but the first thing I thought when I saw Combs committed is that he could be a good building block for our next head coach. Either way, very excited about this pickup.

And the thought that came to my mind was..."wow...this conference USA thing is already yielding benefits to both our football and basketball recruiting". Guess its just a difference in perspective.

Excellent pickup by the Mean Green!

Not sure how many of you guys saw Kenneth Lyons back in the day but Combs is Lyons 2.0. (without the elbows) Lyons was considered a nice recruit out of high school but not the national recruit in the eyes of the high majors. As we all know, he exploded when he arrived at North Texas; after adding bulk and muscle. Additionally, improving his perimeter shot. A future NBA prospect and NT HOF.

Combs' game and motor is eerily similar to that of Lyons. The difference at this time is his lack of muscle and bulk, which will come in college. What's funny is that I saw Combs again this past Saturday at the fall Great American Shootout. (Carrollton) I left saying, "damn I hope we get this guy".

Combs is a better recruit than Greg Wesley, who does not have the same skills down low. Jordan Williams was rated higher based on potential but didn't produce like Combs does. This kid is relentless down low and does not avoid contact. He also has a nice 10-15 foot jumper.

I think that by the end of his career, he has the potential to be an all league performer and MVP of the team. He just needs to bulk up a little more for the college level. He would help the Mean Green this year.

For you young'uns on here, there is nobody around that knows DFW sports and hoops particularly like Cooley. I have been waiting for his endorsement. November can't get here soon enough.

I absolutely agree. That was my initial thought, then it became "thank The Lord we are in a better conference or else I don't know what the heck our best pitch would be."

As for Cooley's post, sounds good! Although I wouldn't classify Jordan Williams as a guy who lacks production. He was our leading scorer as a sophomore so he has produced and has time to get better.

Finally, TJ Taylor should be fun to watch this year and I can't wait. Although I wouldn't hold my breath on his hardship waiver. The NCAA ruled him in eligible which prompted him to go forward and have the surgery. Getting a late release from your LOI really puts him at the mercy of the NCAA, especially since he already took a redshirt year during his first year of college.
