UofH Committing to match 20.5 Million Cap starting July 1
University of Houston athletic director Eddie Nuñez and his staff have spent the past several months crunching the numbers. Nuñez said dozens of different models were created for how UH would structure a revenue-sharing distribution plan with athletes that goes into effect this summer. “We threw a lot of things on the wall,” Nuñez said. While some details must still be finalized, Nuñez said UH is "all-in" to contribute the maximum-allowable amount of $20.5 million during the first year of revenue sharing. That represents a significant financial step for UH — which has the smallest athletic budget among Power Four schools and is heavily subsidized by the university — to remain competitive in the ever-changing college athletics landscape. Nuñez said a minimum $18 million was “a number we felt very comfortable” with because it “allowed us to have flexibility.” The figure could fluctuate closer to the $20.5 million cap depending on how many new scholarships the school adds. “The commitment was we’re going all-in,” Nuñez told the Houston Chronicle. “We’re going to do this at the highest level we can.” A federal judge is expected to give final approval on April 7 to the multi-billion House v. NCAA settlement, which will pave the way for schools to directly pay athletes. A plea to our "football-only" fans
The year we hosted Cal their message board was full of posts saying they should drop football. This was during the transition to the ACC. They mentioned the students and fanbase didn’t care about their sports and attendance was continuing to decline. -

UC Berkeley has more school spirit because it’s a school that most of their students aspired to attend and has high admission standards. We have low admission standards, and are not the first choice school for the vast majority of our students. Berkeley has a 11% acceptance rate, ours is 72%. -

Should we add Texas State to the AAC?
I dont know how long you can play the wait and see game, just look at what happened to the MWC. Right now the Pac12 trying to build a conference, they need us more then we need them, if UNT expressed interest then I think the Pac12 would entertain that offer. However down the road after the AAC has been raided by the ACC, it will be to late to join the Pac12. -
