Not a bad idea --

The safest bet is Saban but he is saying he is too old to change..

They won't do it - and he's crazy as a bed bug - but I don't think there is a more consistent producer than Todd Graham at Arizona State..he is like Sumlin in that he KNOWS how to get the best talent...

Major Applewhite's name always comes up but hes not ready for that pressure cooker...

Les Miles, Gundy -- the guy at Notre Dame?? This is a tough one.

I like Mac and think he is a class act but he has become a victim of the recruiting star system that doesn't measure the heart and desire of a player.

If there isn't a better case study on the inaccuracy of these rating systems I don't know what it is... Texas wins the national race every damn year and basically can get whomever they want nationally...

If he leaves, it could create some opportunities because the new guy may not honor all of the commits and that could cause a trickle down effect here in Texas...

The next coach of the University of Texas will be Art Briles from Baylor.

Safe bet. But really, it's going to be whoever they want, because they're going to money-whip the snot out of whoever they want. I would not be shocked if UT's next coach is Saban @ $8mil+ per year.

Harry, you're right about the star system being flawed. It can't measure heart and not always talent. But...A&M, Bama, The Ohio State, et al use the star system and they are successful. How many two-star players do any of the perennial Top 25 take? Mostly none or one.

When Mack had success with the star system he had some outstanding assistant coaches. They've all been hired away as head coaches. He's having a hard time finding those excellent coaches now. He's long enough in the tooth and certainly has enough money to retire. He'll leave on a fairly high note and shouldn't tarnish his solid reputation.

Replacement? I think that they should give a hard look at Hugh Freeze.

They would hire Kliff Kingsbury away from TTech.

That is all.

He's a first year head coach. No way Texas would give him a first look. If he proves his worth after ten years I could see him at a school like Texas, assuming he meets the system the school wants to run.

Didn't know you knew so little about Kingsbury and his affection for Tech. Much like Gundy at OSU. Doubtful Kingsbury would consider a move to UT even if offered. From what I have seen and heard, being at Tech means more to Kingsbury than just a bigger paycheck.

Plus...since when has UT ever been forward thinking?

Funny, UT seems to be playing with a bit more passion tonight on defense against K State. UNT up at half 17-7 (sorry smooth fresh, but it isn't over yet...only half). But, Ash now out as QB and McCoy is in....you never know where that will go....

Texas got a big win against K-State tonight and they are 1-0 in Big 12.

So Mac needs to beat OU. But Texas has talent so it's not over for Mac yet.

The issue with Peterson, is that Austin U probably thinks he is beneath them. What about Jim Tressell, the former coach from Ohio State?

Of course, if Austin U was forward thinking, they would have realized that the whorn Network would be the first lynchpin in aTm passing them by.

No matter what Saban does at Alabama for the rest of his term, he's got a lifetime contract. Can't beat that. All of us would only wish for that job security.

BTW, if you have UT money, why not hire Saban, Chris Petersen AND Art Briles? Hell of a staff.

They can ass whip him with cash and the opportunity to win a national title and he would be out of Lubbock inside of a minute.

Have you been to Lubbock? Have you been to Austin? Nough said

Hey...for you, me, the nutty pirate and a ton of other folks this would be exactly correct. For Kilff Kingsbury, doubtful...remember those UNT coaches who left for their dream jobs? Dream jobs have a pull on folkks...no matter where located. I remind you that Baton Rouge is no great shakes...ever been there? This is Kingsbury's dream job. As long as he is successful in Lubbock, chances are more than good that he stays. Again, much like Gundy at OSU.

And, I refer you to the part of his resume where it reflects that he played for Texas Tech (yes, in Lubbock) from 1998-2002. Guy is very familiar with what living in Lubbock is like.

But, as you say...boatloads of cash can make a difference...for some folks.

You're probably right. I know alot of coaches would love nothing more than to coach at their Alma Mater, but just this offseason Willie Taggart left his Alma Mater (after bringing them into relevance) to take on a horrible South Florida team... with more pay. Taggart is from Bradenton, so it's like going home for him. Kingsbury is from New Braunfels, so a UT job would be like going home for him too... with more pay.

It could happen.

JJ would be outta Baton Rouge in 2 shakes if a dogs tail if Duke came calling with a pile of cash.

Don't kid yourself.

That is the 1 UNT coach you are talking about, right ?
