1st and 10 at UNT 29 Derek Thompson pass complete to Brandin Byrd for 3 yards to the NoTex 32, tackled by Ben Russell.

2nd and 7 at UNT 32 Derek Thompson pass incomplete to Carlos Harris.

I don't think pulling two series necessarily is the best argument, but folks shouldn't get to excited about DT's 75% completion pct. You could pull the KSU and another game last year and get a similar stat. DT wasn't horrible against Ohio but it wasn't good enough. In fact, can you find 10 games in DT's career that he's played better? It was a mediocre performance but it could be one of his better games. That's not good.

Two years ago DT looked like a mid level Sun Belt quarterback. Last year he looked like a bottom of the Sun Belt quarterback. We need him to be a mid level CUSA quarterback this year. I'm hopeful but not expecting that to happen.

I think DT is getting too much blame but the fact remains this team isn't good enough to win with a game manager at QB.

I don't care if our QBs initials are DT, DW, BB, or AW. We have to get better play out of the position to win games. Period.

No, but it is a good sample of how all the coaches do when DT is in is try and dink and dunk teams to death. That's what we did the K-State game and the Idaho game. The coaches don't trust him down the field (15+ yard passes). His completion percentage should be high considering we don't throw downfield.

What made Vince Young so deadly in college? At the end of the game, when you needed a touchdown, Vince Young would deliver. Now I know it's a stretch comparing DT to VY, they're not even in the same universe, but like everyone has been saying, we need to be able to win close games on the road if we want to go bowling. The simple truth is we can't rely on Thompson in the clutch. He's great when the running game is flowing and there is a blowout, but he looks skittish when the game is on the line. And after three years of being the starter, having MULTIPLE chances to show us that he can perform in tough situations, and still not proving us wrong, I think it might be time to quit expecting greatness out of him. He's not a great QB. He's a below average FBS quarterback. He's limited. We should just swallow one more year with him and wait with anticipation for what DW potentially could be. The key word being "potentially."

Yup, that's the reality of the situation. But some on here will call you a hater or give you excuses about coaching or supporting cast. Truth is DT hasn't delivered and that's why everyone is so critical of his performance. Not because he was 19-29.

As some others have pointed out already, our running game really struggled to get anything going against Ohio. Our offense is clearly built with a run-first mentality, and when the running game fails to produce that puts an undue burden on the QB to do something he isn't supposed to have to do in the fourth quarter. Yes, Thompson has to stop throwing interceptions at critical points, but the rest of our offense needs to put him in a position where he doesn't have to make long, desperate passes with little time on the clock.

Thompson had two interceptions. One of which was off a tip.

The Ohio player that scored ran right past and over our guys on his way into the endzone

Tettleton had two interceptions. Neither one was tipped.

On Trice's interception, Ohio punched the ball loose while he was attempting to make it to the endzone.

According to Mac, if Buyers had ran along the sideline like in practice he could have scored on his interception.

Tettleton went 19 of 30 for 239 yds. 75 of which came of the first play of the game.

Tettleton had 2 INTERCEPTIONS and 2 touchdowns.

Tettleton's completion percentage was 63.3% for the game.

Tetteton's completion percentage for the year is 56.6%

Thompson went 19 of 29 for 195 yds. None of which came off the first play of the game.

Thompson had 2 interceptions and 2 Touchdowns.

Thompson's completion percentage was 65.5% for the game.

Thompson's completion percentage for the year is 75.0%

Yup.... and 6 of them plus Thompson, and at least three of their back ups, are seniors.

And there are 7 seniors on defense and at least one back up...(Sarge) who is also a senior, forcing us to not only replace 7 seniors on defense but FIVE of them are part of our starting front 7. That's a scary thought.

In fact, this is possibly our most senior laden team we have had in years?

All total, we lose 18 senior starters and back ups next year. That's why THIS YEAR is the year to win because next year we will be in full blown rebuilding mode,... something Im looking forward to.

I disagree. On the surface it seems that we'd be doomed after all the departures but Coach Mac has built up the depth on this team. We have some legitimate D1 players on our bench who are underclass men.

On offense: We lose DT (could be a situation where we don't know what we got till it's gone), but return the other 3 qbs.

We lose Byrd, but I doubt we skip a beat with Jimmerson, Pegram, Rollins, and Lewis back.

We lose Prior and Miller, could hurt the run game a little but shouldn't affect the passing game, plus we'll have M Smith, T Smith, Cooper Jones, Chris Loving, and Wylie Reinhardt. Most are blocking tight ends anyways save for M Smith and Jones.

Receiver will be the biggest hit where we lose Chancellor, D Smith, Pleasant, and Caldwell. We will be fine at starter with Carlos Harris, Terrell, and Kidsy back but depth will be a concern.

Offensive line just loses Anyiam.

On defense: Defensive line looks the scariest, lose Boutwell, Abbe, Bellazin, and McCoy. We have guys with starting experience (Lincoln, Mason, Polk) and some guys with promise (Wallace, Roberts, etc) but that is the scariest unit next year from a depth and talent standpoint.

We lose Orr and Wright at linebacker which will hurt. Luckily we'll have Akunne back and Anthony Wallace (Oregon transfer) in the fold as well as some young guys who look good, like Fred Scott. We might be looking at a good juco guy to come in and help here.

At defensive back we have James Jones, Kenny Buyers, and true freshman Chad Davis who are getting experience. One of them will replace Hilbert and possibly another one could move to safety to replace Trice. Hopefully Freddie Warner can be healthy to compete for that spot like he was.

In short, we will most likely be hurting from a depth standpoint but we should still have a good starting lineup. A lot of competition this spring, but hopefully some of these guys have great falls as backups and out themselves in line to start or be immediate options off the bench. Coach Mac has kept his recruits on campus and we have some depth finally. Now we just need to start winning these close games.

Travis, you do realize that fully half of FBS quarterbacks are below average? Bitching about a QB whyo has hit on 75% of his passes over the 1st two games is ludicrous. North Texas was in the Ohio game & was in a position to win in the 4th quarter. NT isn't a top Div I school, BUT we are considerably improved over last year. DT is considerably improved over last year. Have patience with the team & be grateful that we have a competent QB.

Yet we still won't throw the ball to keep teams off-balance.

Lots of close losses this year and we average right around 20 ppg again.

Unless something that hasn't changed in Mac's 2 years at the helm magically changes.

Not hopeful at all.

You are ruining the fantasy that it's all Derek's and Chico's and Dan's fault that we lose by six points on the road to a school that will probably be going to its fifth bowl in a row this season.

It isn't a team game at UNT - it's only the QB and two coaches who are doing all of the heavy lifting. Everyone else gets a free ride.

Kidsy isn't redshirting because he can be a difference maker.

Turner smiley, who is a decent looking freshman receiver, is redshirting because we have depth. Point is we have the depth to redshirt Kidsy, but he's a pretty special talent, same with Chad Davis. They are true freshman who are ready to contribute on a D1 team as freshmen.
