So I was able to get in touch with somebody in the programming department of Fox Sports to help out with figuring out our game watching schedules. Luckily, yes, the Ball State game is going to be broadcast on FSNAZ so anyone visiting or any lurkers who live out here, yes we will be having a watch party.

Now, as to knowing what games are shown and when, that's a bit tougher. For the first 3 weeks of the season, they "lock in" all of their games so you know for sure who is playing. After that, because of tv ratings and team/conference rankings, they plan games either 6 or 12 days in advance. Also, each Fox Sports regional network has its own website and you can find most programming information on there, or call the programming department of your regional network. So after Week 3, you can check online and/or call 12 days in advance of any FSN game to verify if it will be televised in your region, and if they don't know yet, then you can call/check online 6 days later and should have your answer.

A lot of this doesn't help in terms of planning watch parties far in advance and getting the word out through the Alumni Association, this site, etc. But now that we know a little bit more info, even though the timeframe might still be short sometimes, at least we know for sure how to verify in that short timeframe to plan as best as possible. I know this only applies to the Fox family of networks, but I'd bet the others use similar models in their program planning.

Thanks, but if you guys didn't already know the timelines on their scheduling process, I hope it helps you out as well for watching away games. If everything was on espn3, I'd be set ;)

Well crap.

Won't be able to watch

There are two great watching parties in Denton (Oktoberfest) and Allen (UNT grad 90)... I realize you are in the hinterlands... I'm sure that you could find a place to watch it closer or just watch it on your computer and join in on the chat here...I imagine there will be a lot out of town doing this...

Additionally, if you are in Denton and not in an Oktoberfest mood, the athletic department will be hosting a watching party at the Denton Hooter's.

If someone doesn't have tickets for Oktoberfest, can they still get in, hang on the patio or something,..I know an alumni, former T&F at UNT that might be interested, so I'm checking for him...thanks

YES...NO PROBLEM...JUST SHOW up and enjoy the fun...no admittance fee, so come on to the Oktoberfest at the Pavilion...German and craft beers, German Food, Music, Mean Green Family and Friends...and UNT FOOTBALL! Seriously, what's not to like?

Seriously? Who COULD NOT be in an Oktoberfest mood? That would be UN-American! Opps...well, German, perhaps. If you are in Denton, you would definitely be missing out if you didn't stop by the Oktoberfest.

We can all head to Hooter's for the next away game if in Denton, right? Love Hooter's for doing this and think it a great location for our watch parties. They have supported many of the silent auctions set up to raise scholarship dollars, so am all "in" when it comes to helping support Hooter's as well...and they do have great wings and cold beer! But, this time folks...OKTOBERFEST! It will help raise scholarship dollars for UNT students as well as providing a great time for one and all!

Now really, why would the AD go out and do this when we have an NT alum event going on at the pavillion with the same purpose (game watching party) but that directly benefits UNT? Bad idea, IMO.

Family event. It's one thing to have it on in the living room in the background, a whole other to sneak off and watch it on a computer.

And yes, I realize you can run the computer through the TV, but the event isn't at my house.

Yeah there's no way I could have a family event and just have a NT game on "in the background". Those poor house guests would be pretty annoyed at my complete lack of interest in their conversations. As for streaming ESPN3 through a connected computer, yeah, it is kind of a pain. Not to mention ESPN3 is blocked on ipad (huh??) which eliminates an easy and convenient way to put the game on the big screen via apple tv.

To clarify - it is blocked on ipad if you don't have a cable subscription through verizon or equivalent. Yet, I can watch the game on my computer. Bizarre.
