The degradation of tape looks like he's running a VHS camcorder at this point.

He just needs to adjust the tracking controls when he does his iphone to vhs transfers.

Not totally sold its his camera's fault. That vid includes some similarly low quality game film, which were really sharp in the original MGS.com video highlights.

Something about the upload/processing that degrades fidelity?
