I am a huge hockey fan, and I have not liked this off season one bit. But now I am getting concerned. Turco still has not signed with Dallas. This guy is going to be a top NHL goalie. However, he is young. He needs to get signed and practice with the team before training camp progresses. I feel he is going to resign with Dallas, but I feel he needs the most practice time available.

I was reading that the Stars are about a million off from signing him. Marty wants a multi-year contract but the Stars are really only wanting to give him a one year deal. I figure if they lock him up for a few years, they won't have to raise the salary next time if he has another specatular year. But yes, it does scare me that not having him signed right now, means that going into training camp Ron Tugnutt is the only goalie. They need to get him signed in the next few days, especially since they report on Friday in Vail, Colorado.

When does the deadline come up or there will be a strike/lockout?

Is it this season or next? With that looming, I can't blame any team for not throwing money around, though some still are. Hockey salaries are so out of whack when compared to the rest of the pro sports world.

The 2004-05 season is where there is the more than likely chance of a lockout. It's mainly because the salaries of some teams are out of whack, where you have a team like Pittsburgh struggling to get by on a 20 million dollar team payroll, while the Red Wings are sitting comfortable at 70 million. It's the salary disparity that's the problem. Even if they put a salary cap on the NHL, there are still going to be teams that won't be able to reach it, and if you set it too low, too many teams will be going over it. so this is going to be a big problem. This is why you are seeing vets like Adam Oates and such still on the market right now.

well, Marty shot down the Stars latest offer of 3 yrs, 12 mil. Marty says that he is wanting at least 4.5 mil. multi-year contract. This is probably having to do with the fact that Giguere got signed yesterday for about 5 mil. a year. Doug Armstrong said that that was the highest offer they are willing to come to terms with, this situation is started to make me a little uneasy especially since Ron Tugnutt will be our #1 guy heading into training camp.

Armstrong also said that Turco was "poor" in the playoffs.

That comment and not getting Turco signed before JS Giguere signed his made things a lot harder than they should be for the Stars.

NTEagle, do you want to be in a fantasy hockey league?

Sure I would like to be in a fantasy hockey league, have wanted to be in one for a few years, but could never find enough people to be in one.

Turco looked shaky at the beginning of the Edmonton series, but started to get into a groove after the first games of that series, he played well in the Anahiem series, but it was defensive collapes that led to the Stars demise, especially since they outplayed and outshot Anahiem for most of the series. But true, Turco did give up some soft goals during the playoffs but it also doesn't help when the team in front of him collapses defensively or fails to clear the puck out of the zone.

This situation is not looking pretty, and I have hope that it will be resovled by the start of the preaseason games, but it is not looking good at this point in time.

Alright, I made a league and didn't know if there was anyone that wanted to play. CMJ and UNTFan are the usual suspects though. cool.gif

It's at Yahoo! Fantasy Sports, custom league #16530

the password is gmg

If you have anyone that doesn't post on gmg.com that wants to play, invite them.

Turco was shaky at times during the playoffs, but remember this was his first year. Many good and hall of fame goalies are shaky in their first playoff run. This guy has the skill and the ability to be a stud.

Man I hope we sign him.

Well today is our lucky day!

Marty signed a 3 yr deal with the Stars today and will join the team on friday and start practicing with the team. I am so reliefed that I don't have to worry about our goaltending situation going into the preseason games.
