I thought Tulsa was supposed to be good. :-/

I've been thinking this Summer that their "goodness" has been based on recent past performance only. They lost a whole lot of talent. I guess past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results.

Did anyone else think Tulsa looked flat and disinterested last night? I will say that the BG defense, backup QB, and bulldozer RB were quite impressive!

I thought they looked a bit slow and kind of inexperienced. Their defense was fooled by misdirection all night and over-pursued on many plays. Their OL and DL got whipped a lot. I also thought BG was able to pretty much shut their receivers down and not let them run after catching the ball. Special teams killed them.

They will probably have their act together by the time UNT sees them. However, I expect that UNT will have theirs together as well.

The problem with football, as pointed out by me and LongJim, is that you have to be able to do these things to succeed:

(1) Run the ball
(2) Stop the run
(3) Have solid special teams play

Tulsa, which graduated their entire starting defensive line, will have problems this year. They also replaced three graduating offensive linemen; so, that's a problem. Tulsa will be used like a dirty dish rag for much of the season.

Yep.

Every weakness that the pass-first spread offensive scheme has was exposed last night, and every strength that an effective running game has was illustrated in living color.

But wait--I thought the pass-happy-happy-joy-joy offense was the great equalizer?? Yeaahh...no.

Run the football effectively. Stop the run effectively. Play sound special teams. Profit.

That game was a perfect illustration of Football 101.

In Bowling Green's defense, they did have a Top 10 defense last year. So, it wasn't all just Tulsa sucking. Dave Clawson is a pretty good football coach as well. He likey and teachy the pro style sets and running the ball.

Dave Clawson was an absolute joke in the sec as an offensive coordinator at Tennessee.

Bowling Green made that bad qb from Tulsa (Cody green) throw the ball and he just wasn't effective enough. But yes, their defense was good.

Well I guess that's one way to look at it. It's hard to be "effective enough" when your receivers can't get open, your running backs can't gain yards, and your OL and DL and special teams are not "effective enough" either.

It'll be hard to beat that game the rest of the weekend.

Fresno wins it 52-51 when Rutgers' 2 point attempt fails in OT.

That was a fun game to watch but I turned it off after 12:30 AM and it was still in the 3rd quarter. I'm so happy we play Central and Eastern timezone teams!

Really? Clawson was at Tennessee/in the SEC for one season...the season Fulmer was fired after eight games. I think the problem at Tennessee during that time period was multiple presidents, NCAA investigations, and Fulmer at the end of his rope.

We be lucky to have the "absolute joke" Clawson on our sideline. In fact, if we have another losing season, and Bowling Green goes bowling again, I'd say put him on the short list of coaches to consider to replace McCarney. Without question.

Lol. Lateral move at best.

I too was incredibly impressed with Claussen... In fact I saw a lot of similarities between Bowling Green and us...we could be them which would be fantastic. There isn't a BCS team in the country that wants to play them right now.

I'm from Tennessee, so I've followed them for a while. You're partly right, there was a lot more to that season than the infamous "claw-fense." He didn't get near the production he should've with guys who were drafted in the NFL like Luke Stocker, Jonathon Crompton, Denarius Moore, Montario hardesty, and NFL superstar Arian Foster to name a few.

Clawson isn't a joke, he just was in the SEC. Yeah, I wouldn't mind going after him but I also have some faith in Mac and Chico. Hope they prove me right.
