UNT athletics may get boost ($30.4 Million)

The athletics budget for the University of North Texas is expected to increase to $30.4 million for the upcoming fiscal year, to level the playing field within Conference USA and support a new baseball program, school officials said.

During UNT system Board of Regents meetings last week, the board passed an amendment to the system budget to consider adding $2.8 million in revenue and expenditures to the proposed athletics budget of $27.6 million.

Talks with the finance committee, UNT President Lane Rawlins and athletic director Rick Villarreal are underway.

A completed budget is expected in two weeks, Rawlins said.

"Were a lot better than people in the region and state think we are, and one of the reasons we get overlooked is because so much attention is paid to athletics," Rawlins said. "Athletics is how you get attention. ... Its simply a fact of life for an institution of our size and location."

The board wanted to learn more about how UNT compared with other institutions in the conference, and some were concerned that athletic programs arent enough of a priority. Rawlins presented figures that show UNT is on par with spending in its new conference, but Board of Regents Finance Committee chairman Don Potts said the university spends less than half of the average on recruiting.

"The issue of concern is that were moving into Conference USA and we want UNT to have the same resources that our competitors have, Potts said. We do want to win, you know."

I like this Don Potts fella.

Of course I'll say it again... If we don't address the Sujay Lama situation and fulfill our promise to finalize the the Waranch Complex before we spend another dime on anything else we will be looking for another tennis coach before long.

While I agree...if he keeps up his success then how much will the completion matter?

it matters because he coaches at north Texas which means that dozens and dozens of programs can afford to hire him away if they want him and when those programs have both more money to pay and better facilities to offer and they do not have promises they did not keep it makes it all the easier

and the coaching world is extremely small and coaches talk and when north Texas goes to get a new coach every candidate out there will pretty much know there is a very good chance any promise of improved facilities is really not worth much so either take the job because it is more money and look to move up and on in a few years or don't take the job and wait for a place that has the facilities, cash, or that will keep their promise to you when they hire you

easier to lose a coach harder to find a replacement.....other than that ir means nothing

Hodge-podge, Lagniape, Rules For Idiots and Dr. Phil:

Henceforth, fellow UNT alums and Mean Green fans, just ignore this guy GL2Greatness, he's a Southwest Texas State Mean Maroon alum who uses his own version of the Rules For Radicals' author and formerChicago community organizer (and known communist) Saul Alinsky's methods of isolate & demonize with most all his North Texas hate/bashing comments. And all of those he's allowed to continue to dish out almost at every turn.

Certainly just more Freedom of Speech at work here, but at which point does that become counter-productive and even destructive? Do any of you allow an unwelcomed stranger to come into your living room, insult your family, take from your coffers and then leave a steaming pile on your living room before he leaves while he cries............ Na, na, na, na..........na............I've got me some Freedom of Speech and your defenseless to do anything about it.

Back to GL2Greatness: UNT hate/bashing GL2G also goes under the moniker "someone" on the MWC message board, too. The dude just flat gets around these college message boards. One only had to visit the MWC message board back when the subject of UNT came up to see his alter ego of namely "Someone" at work; that is, along with his spot-on and uncanny most similarly worded posts he does right here as GMG.com's resident squatter with his constant UNT hate/bashing but while on this board he so cleverly uses the name....GL2Greatness. How so very clever...well, uh, not really.

So here you go,"GL2Greatness/Someone", maybe UNT alum Dr. Phil can help you some as he talks MPD's and, uh, Heavy Metal? :shocking:

Dr. Phil's TV patient in the video apparently has anger issues, too. Do focus on the written material on the chalk board part of this short video.

AND you know what, GL2Greatness/Someone....I'm sure the Bobcat faithful would welcome one of their own back with open arms since its really time you move on from here. Your UNT hate stcick has turned to utter non-stop unadulterated message board shit and no one on GMG.com really cares how you feel about North Texas since all that has ever really mattered is...............how we feel about North Texas since most of us attended or graduated from the school.

Just more tommyrot from a UNT hater/basher named GL2Greatness aka "someone" on the MWC board.

Words are nice.

Actions mean a hell of a lot more.

That said, this gives me hope that we may be starting to put on our big boy pants. What actions are taken after this basketball season will tell the tale.

I do like this Rawlins quote, albeit 10 years past due:

"Were a lot better than people in the region and state think we are, and one of the reasons we get overlooked is because so much attention is paid to athletics," Rawlins said. "Athletics is how you get attention. ... Its simply a fact of life for an institution of our size and location."

Do we know if that 'extra' money that President Rawlins has to meet with the BOR for is allocated to anything in particular? :whistling1:
