"Abner Haynes was born in Denton, Texas and graduated from Lincoln High School in Dallas, Texas. After graduating, Haynes continued playing football at North Texas State University where he and his teammate, Leon King, introduced integrated college football to Texas in 1956."

Don't we have a heavy arts component at UNT? We should get someone over in the arts section of the schools to make busts of the NTSU legends to display at Apogee.

That's my suggestion of the day. Tune in tomorrow.

Nice to see you taking your meds lately. I like this suggestion. Keep it up and remember - once a day, doctor's orders.

Truthfully, this couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Abner, for all of his accomplishments, has never let this go to his head. He endured more abuse than any player in our history but was never bitter about it.

I like Fake Lonnie's idea about busts around Apogee. I do think that it should be limited to those who are in a pro Hall of Fame and/or the Texas Hall of Fame however. Posters should be adequate to honor the All-Century Team.

I really wiish the early AFL stars had a better chance for the NFL Hall of Fame of which Abner would be one of those who would get very, very high consideration.

Lamar Hunt who one of our alums once told me signed Abner in the south end zone at Fouts Field always said Abner Haynes was the AFL's first bonafide super star.

I cannot remember which NFL team had his draft rights but I'd bet one of you do.

GMG!

PS: Abner has told many of us some real, bonfide horror stories about racism in the mid 1950's.
