Nice to see some class from opponents, rather than the usual junk our opponents post on here.

1946 Vandals arriving in Texas for first ever game in the lone-star state. Hey, we had them tied 7-7 at half!

So, that team had a player named "King Block"? I think he's the rather stout looking lad standing next to what would then have been called a stewardess. What a football name. I mean "Tom Trees" is cool, but he needed to be taller.

This, right here, is actually the sort and tone of discussions that should take place on this board. Well done...love this stuff. Looking forward to hosting Idaho on the 31st. Thank joeyvee...great stuff.

Ok then. Since we are talking about traditions and being good sports with one another, here is a tradition that used to take place at North Texas games. As part of the pre-game show, the North Texas band would face the visitors section of Fouts (or Texas stadium) and (as the announcer would say) "as a salute to our visitors" the North Texas band (under the direction of Maurice McAdow) would play our opponents' fight song.

So here we go.

I went back and corrected the year of our game with Texas --- it was 1949, not 1946. Sorry. Game tied at half-time. Final though was Coach Cherry's Longhorns 56, the Vandals 7. Ouch. We, and Montana, were in the Pacific Coast Conference until it "realigned" in the late 1950's ---- essentially, tossing out two schools. Hmmmmmmmm, can you guess who got the boot? In basketball, the Vandals-Griz would travel as "partners" and while in LA, one would play UCLA, the other USC. They would switch the next night. In 1925, the USC football team traveled to Moscow and played. There is old video available on this game at several google sites. The Trojans only venture into the panhandle of Idaho for football.
