Recruiting, while it slows during the football season, is pretty much an ongoing project until signing date in February. North Texas still has open offers in varying stages for most positions. In some cases we are battling hopeless odds and others we may no longer have a need at that position. There are others that are essentially tabled because of developments with new candidates.

These lists will be those that are already established players and for which offers were made as far as I can determine. Let's review the defensive backs:

Dominique Barnett, 6-1, 175 Alief Elsik

Barnett is a 3* athlete as evaluated by 247 and others but received a palty 5.3 rating from Rivals. He is

considered #107 among cornerbacks and the 187th rated Texas candidate. 247 Recruiting rates him 83 and his composite grade from all sources .8094. He still has interest in us but Colorado appears to be his favorite.

Tre Betts, 5-11, 176, 4.53 Sand Springs, OK

This cornerback's stock has risen to a 3* athlete on 247 and others. Rivals rates him 5.4. Raters have graded him the #109 cornerback and #19 athlete in Oklahoma. I believe that he now has two more offers but we seem to be his favorite and 247 Recruiting has predicted that he will commit to us.

Garrett Davis, 6-0, 182, 4.52 Red Oak

This 2* athlete has not been rated by any major recruiting service other than Rivals (5.3). He is rated by other services with a composite .7889 and #162 safety and 318th among athletes in Texas. It was reported that he liked the university but since defensive backs is not our greatest need I'm a little doubtful that we are still pursuing him.

Payton Hendrix, 6-2, 190 Dallas Bishop Dunne

This #72 cornerback was a one-time possibility but he holds too many offers for us to be in the running. He hasn't officially eliminated us yet but don't hold your breath on this one.

Nehemiah Wagner, 6-0, 170, 4.41 Mesquite Horn

Three-star rating by 247, Scout, and other rating services; 5.4 rating (2*) by Rivals. He is the #117 corner nationally and #207 player in Texas. Great speed. Has four other offers and I have no idea where we stand but I believe that Houston, Tulsa and North Texas are his top 3. He may still be looking for a Power5 conference offer.

Darius White, 5-10, 177 Trinity Valley CC

This is a late offer and I'm not sure how serious we are concerning this athlete (or he is concerning us for that matter). JC often either don't get rated by 247, Scout or ESPN. Rivals rates him 5.6. Nearly all JC players pursuing FBS colleges are rated 3* so I don't know that much yet other than he played high school ball in Belton. I'd think that he'd have to be special with the undergraduate talent that we have at DB.

Please post any additional information or comments about any of the above athletes.
