Oklahoma defensive back Tre Betts has established a pecking order among the schools that are recruiting him that puts UNT in a good position to land one of the top players in the state.

Betts said Friday afternoon that UNT, Kansas and Louisiana-Lafayette are the top three teams he is considering at this point.

UNT is the only school among those three that has offered a scholarship to Betts, who plays for Charles Page in Sand Springs, Okla., near Tulsa.

Betts, 5-11, 181, has been told he is on the recruiting boards at both Kansas and ULL in addition to Oklahoma State, Baylor, Arkansas State and Memphis.

“I am not necessarily waiting,” Betts said, “I am trying to find the right fit. If I find it two weeks from now, I will commit then. If it’s not until two weeks before signing day, I will commit then.”
