It's especially nice that we started off with 2 D-linemen. At this point we have . . .

1 QB

1 WR

1 OT

1 DE

1 DT

3 LBs

1 DB

1 PK

Very good balance. At this point last year, we didn't have nearly this many commits.

We still need:

1-2 RBs

1-2 more WRs

2-3 more O-linemen

2-3 more D-linemen

1-2 more DBs

I would think we're good at QB and LB, unless a big-time player wants to commit.

No argument here. I don't know that you really go looking to sign recruits classified as "athlete," but we definitely want to find ways to increase team speed.

Coach Mac said he was looking for about two guys at the end of last class who were "athletes" that could project to multiple positions. I think we'll do the same this class.

Well Caleb Chumley is an example. QB in high school that is being recruited for other positions, including TE. But different schools may envision his role with them differently.

Right . . . The schools that recruit them almost always recruit them to a particular position. I assumed you meant in your previous post that we need to target two players classified as "athlete" just because.

Collin Kilcrease at Whitesboro fits as an athlete. He rushed for over 2000 yards last year and lines up at WR and DB. He is also a return guy and a punter. He's listed at 6' 1'' (he looked taller than that) 192 and runs a 4.5. In the game I saw last year, he rushed for 216 yards and returned a fumble for a long TD as a DB. (67 yds in a lot of traffic)

Upon further review, do we really need another DE? We have 11, of which 9 are underclassmen and with the possiblity that Moore could also be moved there. Plus we already have Graham committed.

Now, DT is a real need but anymore DE should be recruited as DTs IMO.

If you're looking at the roster, I'm pretty sure some of those listed at DE have been moved over to DT--I'm thinking Austin Orr and Alexander Lincoln, correct me if I'm wrong.

At any rate, I think you always want to shoot for 2 DEs per class. Obviously, DT is a greater present need, and I hope we sign 2 more quality DTs.

We have the numbers, but we don't know if we have the quality after this year. Polk, Q Brown, and Darryl Mason are undersized pass rush specialists and the other ends haven't played. If we could move Lincoln outside he could be a 3-down end, but three of the guys I mentioned are juniors and Polk is a sophomore.

Redshirt freshman Jarrian Roberts, Brad Horton, and Malik Dilonga will be interesting to keep up with this year. If the coaches think they can recruit over those guys then they probably will.

The roster lists nine non-seniors currently. H. Brown, Lincoln and Mason are Juniors. The underclassmen are Dilonga, Flusche, Horton, A. Orr, Polk and Roberts. We already have a commitment from Graham. Moore is listed as a DL, no doubt due to his only weighing in at 252. Should he be able to get up to tackle size I'm sure that they would prefer him there. Otherwise, you could have 11 defensive ends.

If we are successful this year then it would follow that better quality/higher rated recruits will have interest and the quality moves up. If we are to improve our quality that seems more reasonable to me.

If we are to overstock at any position, I'd prefer defensive back. They are usually fast and good open-field tacklers who can contribute on special teams if they do not make the depth chart.
