Shortly after Johnny Manziel won the Heisman, Texas A&M AD Eric Hyman convened a Johnny Football summit in his office. Everyone who mattered was there -- Manziel's parents, compliance, coaches, marketing, SIDs, even the celebu-quarterback himself.

The tone from the head of the athletic department: Everything has changed. Here's how we're going to handle it.

The 62-year-old Hyman knows a little bit about handling hype. The man who hired game-changer Gary Patterson at TCU, inherited Steve Spurrier at South Carolina and was run over by two-time Heisman winner Archie Griffin as a North Carolina defender, was going to set the ground rules. Hyman went so far as to consult with Florida external relations guy Mike Hill, who helped oversee the Tim Tebow phenomena.

MANZIEL'S FUTURE IN DOUBT?

Report: NCAA investigating Johnny Manziel

Hyman at least attempted to get out in front of the Johnny Football parade before it ran over him and his department.

"The meeting that Eric Hyman had wasn't a get-after-you, tell-you-what-to-do meeting [for Manziel]," Aggies coach Kevin Sumlin told me earlier this year. "[it was] 'We're here for you. You don't have to handle this on your own.' "

We now know in one, long tortuous offseason that Manziel has spit on those who have tried to help him. Advice has been discarded like a linebacker trying to wrap up. When news broke Sunday that Manziel may have taken money for signing autographs and memorabilia, it was a reminder of how far the parade had veered off the prescribed route.

"Manziel's own father told ESPN.com, "Yeah, it could all come unraveled. And when it does, it's gonna be bad. Real bad."

Hmmmm, interesting choice of words. When, not if.

Other than as an occasional observer of this mess, I don't give a fat rats rear about the problems of A$M or their immature star.

Okay, when it comes to the "REVELATION" of yesterday, it really just doesn't add up.

The timing of if.

The fact that Manziel would sell his autograph for a few grand, something that is outright easily attainable to him anyway by way of his family.

Etc.

That Dennis Dodd article is one of the most slanted pieces of media drivel I've read in a while. Who is that clown?

I have no idea what to think of Manziel after this offseason, but this latest claim makes me think he's not just fighting his own immaturity. This claim screams jealous boosters from UT/Bama/etc trying to do anything to take down Tamu a peg. Maybe I'm wrong, but the timing of this one as well as it's ability to be proven is highly questionable.

I agree and find it funny UT/Bama are the two implicated with uncovering this latest issue. UT, pissed A&M left for the greener pastures of the SEC, lost their conference whipping boy while Bama got beat by A&M upsetting the big boys of the SEC.

I guess we will see, if true I hope they hang him. If not I hope his family sues ESPN back to the stone age.

What in Manziel's behavior would lead one to believe he would not do this? Of course, we know wealthy people never stretch the rules to get more. If Mav or RV had evidence other schools were breaking rules, would we have them sit on their hands?

...Especially if that team's success could hurt ours?

This "entitled" petulant child is EXACTLY like his father...he learned from the foot of the father. Pity one or the other...no friggin' way...they create everything they "get" when it comes to feeling entitled!
