thought comes to me due to the ouster of cooper from the eagles due to his racist comment...he gets relieved from his duties, not realeased, for the time being...plenty of calls from the media for his permanent departure from the team...

roddy white and victor cruz advocate violence/death due to the outcome of a jury trial...yet...they aren't relieved from the team to seek counseling or anything of the sort...

what's the difference? is saying something racist really worse than advocating physical violence? if so...that's shocking to me...racism is just words...violence can cause actual harm...

i really am confused about this and don't see why it's such a big deal that cooper used racist wording...i believe that violent calls are much worse and dangerous than saying sometihng racist...

sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt...isn't that what we are taught growing up?

it's just a word...not a call for violence like white and cruz said...

disclaimer: i'm a white guy...

I wonder how much him constantly hearing the word may have played into this. By no means of course am I condoning, just wondering. I know that in football there is a ton of trash talk. Roughly 65% of players are black. That word is thrown around a ton on the field, locker room, etc. I'm a white dude but was stilled called the n word numerous times on the field. It makes me wonder how him possibly hearing and being around this word as much as he was may have played a part in him using it.

Here's a remotely related article:

Government workers in the city of Seattle have been advised that the terms "citizen" and "brown bag" are potentially offensive and may no longer be used in official documents and discussions.

KOMO-TV reports that the city's Office of Civil Rights instructed city workers in a recent internal memo to avoid using the words because some may find them offensive.

Nobody is offended by these terms. This is just somebody trying to justify a meaningless job coming up with some nonsense to work on. I just don't believe that people are such insecure pussies that they would get butt hurt over such terms. Like someone mentioned in an earlier post, the pussification of America continuous.

hearing the word constantly might factor in to his use, but who knows.

i just don't get how cooper is being vilified and media calling for his dismissal when cruz and white go on merrily with no repercussions...they weren't fined...they weren't called out by media to have the nfl commish access more penalties to him on top of what the eagles did...that's my issue

sure...he said something stupid...plenty of folks have...white and cruz called for death and violence! how the hell is that not worse?!?!?

I would assume that the thought process overall, and not just related to these incidents, is that creating a culture of racism is what has led to everything from slavery to voter disenfranchisement to burning crosses to burning, dragging, and torturing people, whereas when someone "shoots from the hip" verbally about violence, they are just "blowing off steam" and "it's better to talk about violence than actually commit violence".

You know, like Eminem.
