And be prepared for jaw dropping ass sucking to occur on your presence. Something along the lines of "Chief, that last idea of yours really helped the department. We are fortunate to have leaders like you to mentor us." When you personally know the "idea" was a complete waste of time.

PM me the 1st time this happens. Bet you it's occurs within the first 2 managers meetings you attend. :-)

Oh, and ride along at least one shift a month with a rank and file officer under your command. It will do wonders for morale.
