Although it would suck really bad, I say to hell with them. I think it will eventually lead to a decrease in viewership, which would ultimately mean less money for he networks.

Greed will kill them at some point.

I think that it won't kill them at all. It will kill the rest of us, if we lose the NCAA Tournament. I'll gladly give up the Division 4 Model in football to keep the NCAA Tournament intact, as well as the College World Series. Its far easier for North Texas to compete with Texas in basketball than it ever will be in football, just because of the sheer fact that basketball needs 1-2 guys to make a huge difference.

Although this guy writes for "CBS", CBS executives would not go for this at all. Do you know how much money Florida Gulf Coast & Wichita State made them in March? People tune in to watch the Cinderellas. The Networks know this.

No way this happens unless the NCAA expects to have a "contract renegotiation" (and not a good one) with the networks.

I don't see where they will ever have the votes to have their own tournament under the NCAA. They could withdraw and form their own association and do whatever they can agree on. But, there are three times as many members of Division I basketball as there are in the Power 5 and some of those are near equals of many in power conferences.

They have the votes in football but I see basketball as being safe for a very long time.
