Who will become our biggest CUSA rival ?

I imagine that UTEP and Rice fans are saying the same thing about the possibility of a rivalry with us. Their butts in our seats, and their money in our coffers looks pretty much the same to me. And if they care enough about driving up to Denton, and making a lot of noise at the game.......so much the better.

Hear, hear.

I've never heard any Tech fans say anything negative in regards to North Texas

Seriously. Nothing but love for Ruston.

Has Tyler Techsas quit posting? There were a number of others as well. In fact, Dwayne from Minden seemed to be the only poster with an ounce of civility. Admittedly, I haven't read your board recently so things may have changed in the past year.

Amended Twice Since Posting The Original:

Had your hearing checked lately, techdawg88? :) And......uh......you can always start with Hog Dawg as one of our non-fans.

My, uh, discomfort  with your school first came in 1977 when we went over to Ruston that Fall, schooled yall in that football game to the tune of 41 to 14 and then La Tech gets an Independance Bowl invite a mere few weeks later? NOTE: In fact, I believe North Texas had even been ranked as high as #16 in a poll that same season. I guess the Indy' bowl folks forgot that part, too. because I assure you La Tech had not been ranked in any NCAA D1 poll that or any other season during that era.

Just 1 year before we had travelled approx. 20,000 fans down to UT-Austin to play the Longhorns off their hooves so surely

the Indy' Bowl people knew that North Texas would travel well. And our being hours away from Shreveport more of our

fans would have stayed in their hotels with some doing a a little gambling in their casinos with La Tech fans merely going back to their homes which I'd bet most of which were within a 1 hour radius of Shreveport.

techdawg88, all that a long time ago but I assure you there are still some on this forum today who still have

a very bad taste in their mouths over that total act of inter-collegiate injustice. I mean come on now, you don't invite a team

that has a good reputation of travelling well and had beaten the other team that got the bowl invite, uh, 41 to 14?

Our 1977 Mean Green football season with results:

GMG!

We were invited to play La. Tech in that Indy bowl, I believe, but the great Hyden Fry turned it down, waiting for an invite to another bowl that never came.

So no need to blame that on La. Tech.

that sounds awfully familiar

Yep, it would have really been full circle if we would have been there waiting to play you guys.

Plumm is wrong on the 1977 Indy bowl. It was UNT that felt we were too good to play La. Tech in 1977, much like La. Tech felt they were too good for La. Mo last year.

We each got what we deserved.

Tech really isn't crying over not getting to play the University of Lesser Mentality, they got what was coming to them by Ohio and it was fun to watch

Hoping for Rice. Large public vs small private. Houston vs the metroplex. 2 good marching bands going back and forth.

Plus, they have pedigree. Lord forbid UTSA ever becoming anything other than a school we beat the crap out of EVERY time we play them and with whom we regret association.

Rice doesn't want to be rivals with UNT, especially with their AD fighting to keep the Bayou Bucket Classic alive. (Which of course is extremely likely but never say never)

Second, the MOB would never acknowledge the Green Brigade nor should they. The Green Brigade is a simple traditional marching band, the director doesn't have the cajones to go at it with them nor would he ever play anything "offensive" or "edgy" like the MOB does. (The pissing and moaning by GMG, letters to the editor from alums, remember the Greek Letter and couches on the hill incident? I sure as hell do.) Also, the MOB only pokes fun at the schools they at least somewhat care about like how they formed a "T1?" during last year's Bayou Bucket Classic.

They have/had something epic planned for the aggy game but the aggy officials have banned them from College Station. I'm anticipating what they'll do for this year's classic.

If anybody decides to be rivals with UNT (It has to be mutual and not forced, contrary what people seem to think around here) my guess would be La Tech or UTSA. More than likely the latter imo.

We each got what we deserved., NT wanted any bowl and poli ; but after they had already clobbered La Tech; the bowl didn't want a rematch.

Not true, NT would have went to the Independence Bowl and politic-ed hard for the opportunity at least the way I remember it. Can't really blame the bowl who would want a rematch of that game.

Yes, it is. The team took a vote and voted not to go after Fry told them he had an in at another bowl and the invitation was right around the corner.

The source is someone who participated in that vote.

Did I miss something is Tulsa moving?

We won't even play Middle Tennessee every year? Are they not in the East?

Yes and maybe. Tulsa goes to AAC next year, and CUSA gets new members in the next 2 years. No definite answer as to what the divisions will be but as for now, MUTS is in the East. They or SMiss will probably move to the West as the divisions change.

I've never heard that version. What I heard back in 77 was that NT tried to impress other bowl reps by kicking the crap out of LaTech the last game of the 77 season (41-14). There was no mention of a subsequent invite to the Indy bowl, but rather the option of going there went away because the Indy bowl officials were not interested in a re-match knowing that it could be a big blow out, and therefore little interest for the game. It was also implied that La Tech had a vote in selecting their opponent and were not interested in a re-match with NT.

I posted a comment about La Tech's future, IMO, for this fiasco a week or so ago. It is eerily similar to what happened to North Texas in the 70s. We would lose our great head coach who got us ranked and the program never recovered. La Tech just lost a great coach in Sonny Dykes to Cal--after he gets his team ranked during the season, only to be rewarded with no bowl game. Now, they've lost their AD, too. I'm sure their posters will act like Skip Holtz is a fine replacement, but he is no Sonny Dykes. He will be their Jerry Moore...

I'm not bullish on La Tech for the future. I am bullish on Southern Miss, UTSA, MUTS, and WKU over the next 5-10 years. We will see. I want to bullish on UNT, but I know the history and see the recruiting and just hope that Coach Mac's experience at developing talent and strength on the lines will come to fruition here in Denton very soon. If so, then I think the next 5-10 years will turn out to be very good. If not, I think we will continue to flounder.

It wasn't an option, but I would have voted Southern Miss. They have a tradition that I admire and would like to have for North Texas. I hope we will travel well to each other's venues.

I'm very sorry Tulsa is leaving next year as Tulsa, the city, is a really great town.

I don't know much about UTSA, but I really like going to San Antonio.
