Here is a small tidbit that you might not know. When North Texas changed its name to the University of North Texas (cannot remember the year) Roy Orbison was a guest on the David Letterman show. Letterman asked him if he went to college and Roy proudly said 'Yes, I went to the University of North Texas.'....probably the first time the new name was heard on a national broadcast.

Drex,

That is incredible. There is a clip of Roy talking about his University of North experience. In fact, he says his first hit was written on the roof top of his dorm in 20 minutes with two friends and a six-pack of beer!!!

Rick,

Thanks for posting this; I would not have known about it otherwise. I thoroughly enjoyed the show and Chris Trimboll did a fantastic job as Roy. It brought back some great memories from nearly sixty years ago. I was fortunate enough to hear Roy jam at the apartment where I stayed while attending North Texas a number of times. He was a great talent and a great person.

This makes me wonder where he lived. Apparently lots of people snuck out of their windows onto the cafeteria roof at Bruce. I only did it to escape from someone trying to catch me in a game of tag, but it was pretty easy access. Unless he somehow got all the way on top of the building, it seems likely that he probably lived on the same wing that I did, which would be awesome to know.

Yeah, living on D300 on the cafeteria side was great! Just turn the stereo speakers around to point out the window, put out a blanket to sit on, and climb out the window.
