There is no winning with this group. Half are clamoring because we have no commits and the other half are saying it's too early for commits because they might be gone by signing date.

Admittedly, losing the receiver from Louisiana that signed with TCU last year may have hurt a little more than the linebacker from Sherman who committed late to Texas Tech but they both hurt. It's just that we lose far fewer commitments than we gain in last minute acceptances. When is there a safe time?

I agree GrayEagle. Some posters gripe about the amount of stars our recruits receive but then gripe when the same level recruit signs elsewhere. It is pretty funny when you stop and think about it. Some folks are never happy.

The fact that the 2 Grey Eagle mentions were 2 of our most highly rated recruits should tell you why some of us aren't doing cartwheels just yet.

Lord forbid anyone post about the realities that this program has faced the last 8 years.

This happens every year. Someone commits to us after one of the camps and we are excited about the recruit. Then January rolls around and they change their mind about UNT. Javia Hall, LaRoyce France, the 2 linemen that went to SMU, are a few examples I can think of at the moment. I am not trying to be a negative Nancy, but you do have to realize that these are indecisive teenagers we are recruiting.

Aren't you the same person that criticizes our recruiting calling it pathetic or some other term because other teams are picking up commits? You can't have it both ways? It would be nice to just once hear you applaud our coaches recruiting efforts and not complain about everything.

Don't think I've ever called it pathetic. Disappointing? Yes, especially with the bump in facilities. That's just an honest evaluation.

But honesty isn't what we do around here, is it?

Hope we hold onto this kid and get more with even better offers, but I refuse to be like many and put on the rosiest of rose colored glasses when evaluating this program.

90's right, we have the facilities. If we win we have a good shot at keeping this kid. We also have 3 of our top 6 receivers graduating (Chancellor, Pleasant, D Smith) so this kid will have a chance to start right away.

We're close to home, have great facilities, good television exposure in CUSA, and a chance to play early. You add a bowl game trip this year to that list and we have a great sell to keep this kid and get other top recruits.

Sort of forgot about this kid....his commit still holding?

And for one...I think MoGreen is on to something with that nickname suggestion!

For now we are. A big season would help out here, obviously.

He's another situation of a guy who big schools (like ok st) are slow playing and would probably offer near signing day if they didn't get their top targets.

Was able to catch 3 HS games in 3 nights. Fonzale left the game early in the 4th with leg cramps but clearly, had the best game of the UNT recruits/prospect. Xavier Washington (Cedar Hill) didn't do much against Guyer and both DeSoto defensive linemen were also quiet against Arlington Martin. All faced tough opponents in their first games of the season.

The De Soto defensive lineman couldn't have been that quiet. Their defense held Martin to under 200 yards of total offense and less than 100 rushing for a team that has been one of the best rushing teams in the metroplex in recent years.

Maybe they weren't making plays left and right, but it sounds like they were doing their job. Good to hear about Fonzale though.

From the Thursday, October 17, 2013 Dallas Morning News...

"Heading into the Oak Cliff Super Bowl against Carter (6-0, 3-0 in 11-4A), South Oak Cliff coach Emmett Jones -- in his second season at the school after moving from Skyline, where he was offensive coordinator -- called Davis "one of the best-kept secrets in the city." Jones said Davis compared favorably with three great receivers he coached at Skyline -- Mike Davis, Thomas Johnson and Ra'Shaad Samples. Fonzale is a mixture," Jones said. "He's aggressive to the ball, he's aggressive coming off the line of scrimmage and he is a very physical blocker. He's not afraid to get his hand's dirty." Davis (5-10, 180), a North Texas pledge, has 32 catches for 603 yards and seven TDs. He's part of a talented triumvirate for SOC (6-0, 3-0), alongside QB Kenneth Arthur and RB (and Texas pledge) Jordan Steven.
