with the outcome of the martin/zimmerman trial, this has been a forefront for many people in the press. politicians, stevie wonder, leaders of organizations have called for an end to this law in response to the tragic death a a young man. why are they just now calling for the abolishment of this law? did these folks not care about it when it was first brought into law? are people just clamoring for some type of change and this is all they can come up with?

if it's so outlandishly bad, why not fight against it from the very beginning?

i don't follow politics near enough to care about it...i'm libertarian...think dems/repubs are all a bunch of idiots that do more harm than good in this country...thus, i'm too lazy and uninformed to actually know the answers to the questions i've asked...

thanks....and beer!

The answer is to order another round at the Oak Street Tavern, an establishment I still have yet to visit.

Oak Street Drafthouse? GOAT.

Funny thing is, this wasn't even Zimmerman's defense.

Oh, and I like beer.

That may be because violent crime rates have dropped in Florida around 23% since the law took affect in October 2005.

http://www.politifact.com/florida/statements/2012/mar/23/dennis-baxley/crime-rates-florida-have-dropped-stand-your-ground/

Here is a comprehensive list kept by the Tampa Bay Times of individuals, case by case, who have benefited from Florida's SYG law.

http://www.tampabay.com/stand-your-ground-law/fatal-cases

But the facts supporting the positives of the SYG law in Florida didnt stop Eric Holder from lying about it to his NAACP audience yesterday, and referencing it AND the Martin case knowing damn better than anyone else that SYG was NEVER used as a defense in that case.

But again, remember, never miss a chance to exploit a crisis.

And I like beer too. Started to enjoy Primo by Kona brewery during my two week stay in Oahu.

Nothing is better than standing your ground with a beer in your hand.

I think Holder and the Obama administration are grasping at the SYG laws as a weird secondary approach to gun control after having their behinds whipped on the issue after politicizing the Martin case as a means to that end. Pres. Obama has been the best friend the firearms industry has ever had. Don't believe me? Look at the increase in gun sales and prices in the last year and a half.

Especially for the ever misunderstood "assault rifles."

and that's why i ask about this law. yes, something bad happened, but it wasn't because of this law...

i really hate politics and how people use certain events to share their platform and shiat...just do your job...help the country and shut up...

the kona brewery isn't bad...i like their longboard lager...

i stand my ground most every day with beer!

Not bad. For outright incredible taste, I've been really big on all things Lagunitas lately. If you want want some really out there stuff like Vanilla Porter and, yes, a curry beer (surprisingly good for one bottle, but not a session beer), look for the fine folk at Ballast Point. If you want to completely erase all memory of your evening, I wholeheartedly recommend Green Flash Brewery's Le Freak.

All of the above are California breweries, but are readily available at fine retailers throughout Texas.

Good suggestions and exactly why you need to hit up the draft house...they have all types of unique brews...some session...some just to experience

Sounds like a less pretentious version of Brew in Fort Worth, which has some FINE beers available, but it's hard to taste while holding your nose among all the popped collars and Gucci handbags.

COULD NOT DISAGREE MORE!!! yes i'm yelling! far from pretentious...2 dollar lone star all the time...ping pong table...you won't see gucci and popped collars there...promise...you will see people ranging in age from 21-65 at any given time...hell kram loves the place and he's old!

You are actually agreeing with me. I was calling Brew pretentious, not Oak Street. But on Kram being old? On this, we agree. There is no truer certainty in the known universe.

Also, I am most certainly not above enjoying a $2 Lone Star or eight. It's just those pesky driving rules that really keep me out of drinking in Denton on non game weekends anymore.
