"Florida International has booted leading rusher Kedrick Rhodes from the team following an arrest over the weekend.

The Panthers' top back was charged early Sunday morning with discharging a weapon on school property, a second-degree felony, and three misdemeanors. The FIU statement said that Rhodes was dismissed for a "violation of team policy," but it's not hard to connect the dots from getting arrested over the weekend for firing a gun on campus to getting booted from the team on Monday.

Rhodes had 714 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns last season, along with 19 catches for 235 yards. The loss of Rhodes means that new coach Ron Turner's best returning rusher will be quarterback Jake Medlock, who tallied 375 yards on the ground last year. The most productive returning back is Shane Coleman, who had 8 rushes for 32 yards. Rhodes, a senior, was even more productive in 2011, when he rushed for 1,189 yards and 8 touchdowns.
