A few days ago, we took a look at UNTs mens basketball roster after a summer overhaul that would rival anything one would ever see on Extreme Makeover.

UNTs makeover went further than a little makeup.

UNT had arguably the most talented player in school history in Tony Mitchell declare for the NBA draft, lost another double-figure scorer in Roger Franklin to graduation, added four Division I transfers, two JUCO transfers and two high school signees and had two guys transfer out.

The idea is that UNT will have a better shooting team, more depth and more options.

To review, heres the roster and a guess of how much each guy will play:

Projected starters

PG Chris Jones 9.2 points a game, 74 assists

SG T.J. Taylor Former Oklahoma signee who spent a short time at Marquette

SF Jordan Williams 14.2 points, 3.7 rebounds a game, 46 3s

PF Armani Flannigan Athletic 6-8 forward who averaged 14.2 points and 6.6 rebounds a game at Central Wyoming State

C Kelvin Gaines Former Cincinnati forward is 6-10 and has high-end athletic talent

I like the article but I disagree with leaving Voss out of the starting lineup. I would prefer to have Flash come off the bench.. I think we need his rebounding.

I agree. It should be interesting to see Voss, Flannigan, and Wesley battle it out. I like Wesley's athleticism and his ability to stretch the floor with his shooting ability. Voss maybe could do that a little too.

I wonder about Flannigan's offensive game. All I've seen is that he's athletic and can put the ball in around the rim. He scored 14 points a game so maybe he has some sort of scoring ability.

Looks like UNT has some great options coming off the bench along with a pretty darn solid starting five. Could make for a very interesting and enjoyable first CUSA campaign for the Mean Green and it's supporters.

Keep in mind that Marquette has played a lot of small ball in the past with 4 guards/wings & 1 big

Maybe we see something like - Jones , Taylor , Williams , Aniefiok & Gaines

I'm wondering the same thing about that guy. Everything about him (and most of our recruits) sounds like a couple years ago when we were hearing justin patton's review and then supposed to believe it would translate to the Sun Belt.

Jones and Jordan Williams should be locks. Taylor seems like a good bet for the 2 guard. It is anyone's guess who played the other positions. I think Alzee could have a special senior year but for whatever reason appears to always be in Benford's dog house. Seems to me a lot of enthusiasm among posters for Aniefiok, which I really don't entirely get. I don't think he will beat out any of the other guards for time.

Guard play should be much improved but who is going to play inside. I think Wesley will be the best of the bunch and should be starting fairly soon. I have almost given up on players listed at 6'10, I can't think of any in NT history who have made a strong contribution.

My guess for starting line: J. Williams, Jones, Wesley, Taylor and Voss. With Benford there doesn't seem to be a rotation; just everyone in for a few minutes, but I would go with Flanagan, Alzee and Vaughs.

Well it shows Alzee as the last guard to get play time. I wonder if his mindset is just not there anymore.... I'm ready to watch some exhibition games already! When does practice start!?

You realize that this is just a guess from a beat writer , right ?

True. I remember back when they rolled out Dominic James, Jerel McNeal, Wesley Matthews, and Lazar Hayward and the 5 spot was reserved specifically for protecting the rim and getting rebounds. That team did pretty good in a Big East that was extremely loaded that year.

It's unfortunate, but I agree. If a guy is 6'10" or up he would end up at a Kentucky, Syracuse, Duke type school if he has any skill. Hopefully Gaines can buck that trend.

Yes I realize that. I am just simply stating what I have seen. Alzee was in the dog house most of the season and his numbers were down for reasons unknown.

Based on Coach's requested needs it looks like he has filled them. There was always one word that would describe Marquette's teams and that was Athletic.

The team looks impressive to me , now lets see what Coach can do.

To some, anyway.

On tape, Flanigan looks like the worst recruit to ever suit up for the Mean Green!

Now that is saying a lot, and I know you have watched UNT BB for more than a few years. Really hope you are mistaken on Flanigan.
