I'm of two minds about the whole thing. On one hand, it's smart to combine the two if done right. On the other hand...are they actually being "combined" in the sense where they're making a bigger event with additional "stuff" (you know, like how MTSU got 52 businesses involved, blah blah blah) or are they just saying, "hey, come to the event on the 4th which is exactly the same as it would be otherwise, except that we're going to make an additional announcement over the speakers in the middle of it"?

That's exactly what I think our effort will be. Use the Jumbotron with a few CUSA graphics, mention a few teams we'll be playing (Rice, UTEP, etc.), and bam, that should do it. It's past 8PM, let's go home.

FFR, I get that you expect nothing from this AD, but you are missing the forest for the trees here.

Does UNT throw a party for the few hundred fans that show up to that kind of thing? Well sure, but they did/are doing that for the announcement, the coaches caravans, the summer BBQ, and this new MGC appreciation party.

Or you could focus on getting new fans from Denton (which EVERYONE, I repeat EVERYONE agrees is needed, especially from the Denton community) that can help you fill that beautiful, expensive stadium. If you get 250-500 new season ticket buyers out of this event, it is so far beyond worth it. I am not saying that will happen, but once you get people in Apogee and listening to RV and Mac, you have a pretty good chance of at least getting them to a game. "Oh UNT is playing UTEP and Rice in Denton, I might go to one of those." You still have to win games to get them to actually come or come back, but at least you have their attention.

This is actually some of the best marketing the AD has done in a long time. You bring in thousands of Denton and surrounding area residents and have a captive audience. These are exactly the people this athletic program needs to get on board. What do we all say here? Denton doesn't support its university like other college towns! Well this is how you start building that relationship.

Smart.

Yup. If Rick and Mac (and maybe a couple of others) give some much-needed "spirit talks" and we have some "yay CUSA" stuff thrown in around the stadium in the form of games, raffles, whatever, it will boost this and make it the perfect "combo event". If it's just "p.s. we're in CUSA now, yay, more fireworks" then it will be another missed opportunity.

Since UNT will be having its CUSA party on July 4'th, that gives us 3 days to "borrow" some ideas as far as how all the other new CUSA schools do theirs with their own party activities,ie, results from their official websites after July 1'st. Don't most businesses "borrow" potentially good ideas from the internet all the time as it is? I know I do in the DJ business.

I have no idea what the Denton Kiwanis Fireworks crowds are anymore since I don't live in Denton, but how many do they expect to show up this 4'th of July at Apogee Stadium? How many showed up at Fouts the last few years?

You know, we really do amplify problems or potential problems on this board more than we might should from time to time (almost like an old woman's sewing bee bitch session at times), but what do we really expect to accomplish with our CUSA welcoming activities anyhow? It's really going to be just a quick hit type thing anyway. We will not make or break our marketing program on this one night's activities since those should have already been well in place as far back as last Winter.

If 20,000 plus citizens show at Apogee (with many bringing along the "all important" kids demographic) no matter what they say or just show on the video jumbotron about CUSA will still significantly reach more than all the other much, much smaller parties at all the other new CUSA outposts. What are "those" newbie CUSA schools expecting to accomplish with their parties instead of just, well, uh, a party?

If North Texas were marketing savvy it would do just like those forever TV info'mericials and keep their video message board busy throughout the evening hammering out CUSA visuals. They don't have to have an audio commercial on the subject every 5 minutes to the level of over-kill but merely visuals because..........a picture is worth how many words so say the Chinese?

GMG!

I fully expect this to be our marketing "push".

(With loud fireworks booms going off overhead and all eyes on the sky)

CUSA graphic on the jumbotron and a quick blurb of "fans, (boom) get your 2013 season (boom) tickets to see North Texas play (boom)UTEP and Rice"

I doubt they want to elongate the whole evening in any significant way, so I don't think there will be much time for speeches or whatnot. I wouldn't get my expectations too high for this shindig.

FIFY...because CUSA sells itself.

I predict red, white, and blue balloons emblazoned with the C-USA logo being a player in the decor. Maybe an edited version of "I'm Proud to be an American" including the line "God bless C U S A".
