RV's coaching hires will be a huge obstacle for him to overcome, especially for a program who just fired a coach after one hugely disappointing season (something RV refused to do).

Not saying it couldn't happen, but you shouldn't think that it will simply because he used to work there once upon a time.

OK--Southern Miss just fired the AD who brought in a colossal failure of a coach that went 0-12 and they promptly fired him. They aren't going to go after a guy who has made the worst hire in school history and then kept him for 4 years, while also making the worst hire in womens sports history at the university. And if Benford doesn't make any progress soon and really is Trilli Part 2, then he will have made the worst hire in mens basketball history for this school. As I type all of this, it makes me pray that no one from Hattiesburg even knows about any of this and they do want him back. My guess is that RV doesn't leave Denton to go anywhere. He will retire here. Besides, he gave us tailgating!!

....and don't forget the worst hire ever to head up the Mean Green club, and then kept her around for at least four years. Any AD hired after Helwig (the worst AD of all time at NT) would have given us tailgating.

      Same here. I am tired of trying to convince my group to re-enlist their time and money to football at UNT. On the other hand I have no issues getting excited for basketball. We have a basketball program that is deserving of our support!

      Odus Mitchell - What Exactly are Too High Standards at UNT?

      We have only had 4 coaches [I missed Jack Sisco] since 1913 out of a total of 18 who exited North Texas with winning records, Hayden Fry being the last in 1978. Goals and objectives must be realistic and obtainable with a little pie in the sky. Quite honestly I have no idea what we our standard should be, only what it has become . However, expect more are you will get less ,which seems to be the norm for our football program.

      I’ll say this as well - There are people in my group of 20+ season ticket holders that have held them since 2003 questioning if they’ll renew next year because it’s not fun anymore. It feels hopeless after 20+ years. They’re just saying, I’ll keep supporting basketball because at least we have a real program and coaching staff that we can all believe in through wins and losses. No one believes in the football coaching staff - except Patrick Cobbs - who we might as well elevate to HC. He’s the only one that actually produces and legitimately gives a shit about UNT. This program’s situation is dire whether the AD realizes it or not.

      I certainly am not making excuses for the termination of Caponi and agree that it was overdue. However I am surprised that our AD and not HC was the one who reportedly pulled the trigger. I owned a medical device sales agency for 30 years and can testify that no one like firing an employee. In fact those who do , unless its a really egregious act, usually wait longer than the should because the real mistake was made by you in hiring them in the first place. Having said that I have never terminated an employ that didn't expect it and in most cases were relieved that the ax finally dropped.
