We'll never build our way out of road problems with more roads.

28 lanes...man. When that big wreck happens it will be a Texas sized traffic jam.

That 75 interchange will be a chore to navigate. The toll pieces look cool to drive through since they'll be buried.

Yet another reason to be thankful that I'm not from Dallas, that I don't live in Dallas, that I rarely ever have to drive to Dallas or drive through it.

As someone who drives 635 semi-regularly and 820 every day, I can say with confidence that the latter is a circle of hell that Dante hoped we would never know about.

Not in the Metroplex that much but it seems worse every time I am there ... The only thing consistent is more change.

I bet your referencing the North East part of the loop here? If so, I agree. But, that sucker will be ok once it's finished and it will be finished way before 635.

Maybe someone else here knows the answer, but I never understood why they built 3/4's of loop 820 with 3,4 or 5 lanes. Then left 1/4th of it...AND THE MOST CONGESTED PART OF IT... At 2 lanes?

All I know is that the long-term success of Alliance, and therefore a significant part of Tarrant County economy, depends on expanded ground transportation. That place is a HUGE hub for rail and air, but if there is no ground transportation available to support it, it's of no use to anybody.

There is some information on this somewhere, and I may be off on some of the facts, but I believe one of the reasons was because of one of the municipalities in the HEB area (don't remember which one) threw a fit over proposed widening/addition of lanes through there. The go-ahead was only approved after the ridiculous cluster that exists there now finally caused public uproar. IIRC, the original vote *not* to expand that area happened back in the early-80's, maybe?

Now, I don't know if that had anything to do with the section between I-30 and NE Mall, but I know that the section from NE mall to 35W had big opposition to expansion or another throughway being built. Take that FWIW, though, because I don't remember all the details. I think the FWST did an article about it a few years ago.

That train and bus system has to be ready to expand to accommodate all of the commuters.

And the commuters have to be ready to go without a car commute every day of the week. Their wallets are ready to go without driving to work everyday but I doubt all of their personalities are.

Not always true. My last job was in oak cliff, right next to the end of the dart rail line there. After the DCTS train was rammed through and built I checked into commuting by rail.

It would have cost more than driving and taken almost twice as long in the morning and about 1.5 times more time in the evening. If I was driving a less fuel efficient car that would have changed the results for cost, but not the time of course. I basically lived and worked at the opposite ends of the regional system. If it didn't make sense in terms of dollars or hours, that shows me there were huge problems with the system design and implementation.

That is even without thinkjng about if there was a large blackout and the dart trains couldn't run...
