Forbes:...http://www.forbes.com/sites/andygreenberg/2013/06/05/nsas-verizon-spying-order-specifically-targeted-americans-not-foreigners/

.."In a top secret order obtained by the Guardian newspaper and published Wednesday evening, the FBI on the NSAs behalf demanded that Verizon turn over all metadata for phone records originating in the United States for the three months beginning in late April and ending on the 19th of July. That metadata includes all so-called non-content data for millions of American customers phone calls, such as the subscriber data, recipients, locations, times and durations of every call made during that period.

Aside from the sheer scope of that surveillance order, reminiscent of the warrantless wiretapping scandal under the Bush administration, the other shocking aspect of the order its target: The order specifically states that only data regarding calls originating in America are to be handed over, not those between foreigners...."

Taking that liberal hated patriot act to the next level, I see.

It's amazing what people will submit to as long as it's their "team" in power.

Could you imagine the reaction with a truly conservative republican (which we haven't had since the 80s) in office?

Not a fan of this.

But then I'm also not a fan of cell phone providers tracking our whereabouts by GPS on our phones, or google tracking our internet habits, or various retailers like Target tracking our purchases and sending us customize coupons based on what they think we'll buy. Remember Minority Report? That's probably coming sooner or later. Big brother is here...and it's just as likely to be big business as the government.

Business have no power over you. Government does.

I get what you are saying, but government is far more dangerous in this aspect than business.

Another under the radar issue is the Supreme Court's ruling that your DNA can be collected and cataloged without a search warrant if you are arrested for a "violent felony."

They compared DNA to a finger print. Although a good tool for law enforcement, just another increase in how far the government can go to know everything about you, including some peoples DNA code.

"Equally unusual is the way the NSA extracts what it wants, according to the document: Collection directly from the servers of these U.S. Service Providers: Microsoft, Yahoo, Google, Facebook, PalTalk, AOL, Skype, YouTube, Apple".

Damn there must be a crap load of terrorist in the country?

Google, Facebook, or whatever Site you visit tracking your browsing for ad purposes, as invasive as it is, is not the same thing as a governing body tracking what sites you visit, viewing private chat logs, viewing your emails, and looking at your pictures. I have NO problem tracking a potential suspect. But get a damn warrant. If they need help, they have classes on the proper way to write warrants.

The best way for retailers to track your purchases is with a company credit card (like the Target Card) or a discount card (numerous grocers have these). Without a company credit card or discount card the only identifying markers that are available for a retailer to determine who are is the merchandise you buy.

Most cellphone providers can track you now at any second of everyday through GPS devices in their phones.

Cell phone providers could triangulate where you were before GPS was standard on cell phones.

Like I said...something I still have a huge issue with.

--Not exactly political ... this had been going on ever since the Patriot Act was passed....and not by the party now in White House. This is not a good thing and wasn't then either. [ Liberal..?? again when was that act passed.? I keep saying that the party that claims to be conservative is really more the liberal one ... the debt wasn't what it became after they walked in plus we were not thinking we needed to invade everyone in the world before then to control their lives... and I don't think telling everyone what to believe and do is all that conservative either.... including religion beliefs ( as written in Constitution)... paying your debts and minding your own business seems conservative to me... ]

.. and I think this "monitoring" is not justified and wasn't when passed either... monitoring with a court order on certain people likely is ... but not the way this thing has been operated by either administration.....

Reagan conservative .?? ... well he said he was. He was former President of a labor union, twice, the Screen Actors Guild (I thought conservatives think Hollywood people are very liberal ) and the national debt nearly tripled under him .. so much for paying your bills. "90" .. you were not an adult during those years ... and likely not paying much attention to what was happening. Most of those conservative claims are a myth... don't forget he was supplying Saddam** weapons and the Iran-contra-scandal occurred as well (US planes supposedly even ran drugs unbelievably in that deal ) ... Bush Sr. was rather conservative and tried to get the debt under control and the GOP wouldn't support him and many voted Perot so he was not re-elected.

**we still aren't out of Middle East and putting our nose in and it has caused a lot of Islamic hatred of us by not minding our own business as much as we could have.

It's amazing what people will submit to as long as it's their "team" in power.

-- Exactly ... that explains your blind support of the Bush era

The Patriot Act was set up to track domestic to international transmissions, not domestic to domestic, which is illegal and what the current administration has done. Nice post with many words, but it is apples to oranges.

Oh, and Obama can't hold a candle to Bush.

--It wasn't used that way then either... I remember some very innocent senior citizen group in California discovering they were being monitored. Not sure but may have been retired teachers. Made absolutely no sense.

hahahahahahahaha.

My blind support of the Bush era?

Just because you choose to blindly support Pres. Obama's overspending by saying "well, Bush spent money, too." don't think for a second I blindly supported George W. He was not a fiscal conservative in any sense of the word. You just choose to use that oh so evident fact to justify Pres. Obama spending at a rate 3 times that of W.

I was an adult in the Reagan era. I saw democrats promise Reagan that they would cut spending if Reagan would give in on this and that. EVERY time democrats went back on their word. What do you think made me a conservative?

Reagan's dealings with Tip O'Neal were a black spot on his presidency, and no republican president has learned since. Every one thinking that they could be the ones to actually make dems abide by political agreements, and every time getting the shaft.

I wish republican Presidents would take a page from Pres. Obama, who does not give one inch on his important agendas. They won't, as I'm sure the party will mistakenly think the answer is to move further toward the center and nominate a Chris Christy type next time out (if they do this again, I simply won't vote).

They need to give Americans a clear choice, not Hillary Clinton light (much like Pres. Obama light failed last time out).
