Yes, insinuating that those emissions would heat up the planet all things being equal. But as I said, the ash those erruptions kick up actually does the opposite.

The carbon, silver and other massive pollutants have a longer lasting effect than the ash.

If you want to debate where humans are causing global warming or not, go ahead, scientists can conduct studies and find correlations for and against both sides. But I see absolutely no reason NOT to improve pollution controls, that is a concern for public health and something that everyone should get behind. If it in any way helps slow down global warming (if we are causing it) then bravo.

But, sucks to your ashtmar, I suppose.

That is a reasonable way of putting it.

Depends on how much ash. A super volacno erruption could block out the sun.

If the people who preach that we should stop using carbon-based stuff would stop using carbon-based stuff to set the example I might follow.

Here...here's a list. And, it's a list right on PBS.org so you'll know it's not a church or Sara Palin preaching to you about what you'll be giving up...if you ever put your money where your green mouth is:

http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/classroom/wwo/petroleum.pdf

Go ahead, greenies...start with the "Building and Home" list. I'll come over and help you pull all of that stuff out of and off your house, so that you can really show the world how serious you are about being "green."

Next, we'll go out to the driveway and remove the stuff listed under automotive out of and off your car.

It's always nice to get a good laugh at "green" folks who preach ditching carbon, yet still drive cars and live in structures like houses. apartments, duplexes, condos, and whatnot.

Practice what you preach, greenies. The list is right there on your favorite television station, PBS. Go ahead, live carbon free, carbon-free bangers!

Come on, O, Prophets of Green Doomsday...save us! Save yourselves first. Stop being hypocrites. If you live in a structure topped by these, tear them off or move out, if not today as soon as possible to prove your commitment to the cause:

And, then, pull these things off your car:

Come on, O, Prophets of Green...lead the way!

I think people realistically know that humanity will never stop all of that stuff. I think the point is every little bit helps. So, if you can walk to the store to pick up a few things instead of driving, do it. If you can turn off some lights, instead of having your whole residence lit up, do that too. If you can car pool somewhere instead of taking multiple cars, do that (or take public transit). If you can recycle your cans, do that.

I mean, I certainly am no "greenie" -- but I do all of that in some form or another. If I do all of that, it's no big deal. If 300 million do it, it starts adding up.

I think the vast majority of conservatives would agree that "every little bit helps," and that it's good to do your part where you can. The disagreement comes in because the "greenies" think it should be government-enforced. There's quite a big difference between that and the personal improvements you suggested.

That's true. Of course many people won't ever change unless its government enforced. So, it's kind of a dilemma. I am not really for a draconian government policy either , but i do think people need to change their habits. Somewhere there has to be a way to fish slap people around into action without it actually being a directive. We've just yet to find it.

I liken all of this to taking the SATs or something.

You, yourself, put in all this time and effort into studying for them. You sink alot of money into Kaplan or whatever, SAT prep books, pre-tests and such...

Then you watch the flippant guy that doesn't get the same kind of grades as you, sit on one side of that genius guy and cheat. On the other side is the star QB, Mr. Popular guy that everyone likes and wants to be like, copying the genius as well.

Neither get caught. No penalties. Both get a better score than you with little to no effort. You could easily cheat as well. But you're a stand up guy, so you don't. But it really chaps your rear.

You = concerned citizens in the USA and Europe.

Cheaters = India/China/other emerging countries with little-to-no environmental awareness, making HUGE impacts, and the consumer mentality of majority of United States citizens.

That's what we have California for. So that those of you who can't get enough of government controlling your lives can move there.

Dear Fake Lonnie,

Do you really think "Greenies" do nothing on a personal level to reduce their carbon footprint? Even if they don't do enough (& most don't) do you think that absolves you from your responsibility to do the right thing?

Dude, make a contribution that isn't just negative verbage.

With all due respect,

I'm just glad that this discussion involves some semblance of science. Something that the right wing (or further) finds too hard to cs.

I am a card carrying member of the GOP and I understand volcanos are the largest source of carbon emissions on planet earth. Global warming is a serious problem right now, on Mars. Al Gore should have stuck with banning Two Live Crew albums instead of amateur climatology, I guess he needs something to bitch about to feel relevant. Finally, thank goodness the industrial revolution ended the last ice age 10,000 years ago.

Please, bring science up in the global warming debate, it would be a welcomed change. Planet earth never had periods of warming and cooling in its estimated 4.6 billion years? We have been keeping data for less than 100 years or so? (Seconds in geological terms.) It's funny how legitimate scientists don't get air time when they speak against the expert opinions of actors and politicians. I am all for recycling and keeping land, water, and air clean but the global warming crowd should be ashamed of the verbal diarrhea they spew. (Example: Moronic Congressman claiming Moore, OK was caused by Republicans fault. Or Al Gore claiming the record setting snowfall recently is caused by warming...seriously..., the laughable UN even admitted they had to change data and cook the books to make global warming look like an issue, and on and on...)

So you mean to say that this:

Has nothing to do with global warming?

I take that the data a few ways. 10,000 years ago a few camp fires ended the ice age because the industrial revolution began basically 5 minutes ago, in geologic terms, and there is a hell of a lot more unprotected sex occurring lately.

Additionally, your graph was used by the global cooling crowd of my youth.

I don't think the greenies even know how much of a "carbon footprint" they make. Nor do I think most of them really care. I think they are mainly driven by the desire to simply oppose oil companies for the sake of opposing them.

The majority of them have no idea how many petroleum-based products they use daily. I don't think even a tenth of them realize how many petroleum-based products they use daily. And, it benefits them greatly.

I still see them driving cars. I still see them living in asphalt shingled houses. They wear shoes and permanent press clothing. They - some of them - still use hygiene products. And, on and on and on, on, and on. The beat don't stop until the break of dawn.

I'll take them seriously when the streets are flooded with bicyclers and pedestrians, and they are living in hovels and caves, hunched over campfires eating the food they killed or harvested themselves. Otherwise, they are just silly people consuming and using many petroluem products daily while railing against them.

Here's something all greenies should do: go to Nicaragua or some other third world country without strong oil companies producing life enhancing products for them. Go down there and live with a minimal "carbon footprint" and other such nonsense.

Hypocrisy. That's all it is with these greenies. There is no way any of them, in spite of all of their spit and vemon, will ever abandon the petroleum product in America that make their lives easier.

Shut up until you live in a cave, live with fire as your main source of energy, and are sustaining yourself on what you kill and grow.

Buttholes. Ted Nugent is leaving less of a "carbon footprint" than most of the greenies and lefties who rail against him. Ding dongs.

(P.S. - Speaking of Ted, guitar strings are made with petroleum-based products. So...all of those protest singers...they are using petroleum based products to oppose petroleum producers. Yes, it's that laughable. Beardo the Weirdo ranting on the corner with his beat up guitar has his hands all over petroleum products.)

The graph has a lifetime transferable warranty to any panic scenario leftist enviromentalists want to create from generation to generation. Cooling. Warming. It's handy.

Can someone explain what dental chews naturally made with added vitamins, minerals, taurine, and chlorophyll (sodium copper chlorophyllin) to provide a complete oral care, and offer a nutritionally complete and balanced blend of highly soluble and digestible proteins for adult dogs based on AAFCO recommendations have to do with global warming, or lack thereof?

What??

How does a population explosion and consumption of everything by all of these people contribute to cooling anything? Simple thermodynamic laws. More activity by more people causes more heat.

Now if you want to look at greenhouse gasses and such, that's just a separate issue.

But if you're going to bring up the earth's past fluctuations of cooling/heating, you simply cannot leave out the exponential population growth since the industrial revolution because it is a gigantic variable.

Say what?

Who are these legitimate scientists you speak of who deny climate change? I know there are some but I don't think you know who they are.

It's all a UN conspiracy?

Easy. K-9 vitamin deficiencies as well as K-9 tooth decay coincide with global warming because they are byproducts of the increased air temperature that George Bush created when he used his septor to cause hurricane Katrina due to his disdain for Kanye West. Didn't you know the oil drilling created the earthquakes that caused the catastrophic tsunamis that killed so many people in Japan and Indonesia? T Boone and W have blood and dog cavities on their hands.
