If I went strictly off Oscars for "Best Actor", I would have to say Daniel Day Lewis. Jack Nicholson has two "Best Actors" and one supporting actor award.

Is Tom Hanks up there? What about Denzel Washington? or Robert DeNiro?

for playing iconic roles such as Indiana Jones and Han Solo, is Harrison Ford in the conversation? Clint Eastwood?

I know I'm missing some other good actors, but if I had to go top 5 based on my own criteria I think i'd go in no particular order

Denzel Washington

Tom Hanks

Heath Ledger

Robert DeNiro

Leonardo DiCaprio

My favorite character in any movie ever is Val Kilmer's Doc Holliday in Tombstone. Followed closely by Denzel Washington in Training Day.

I would hardly call Val Kilmer the best actor though. There's probably not a single person out there that I would say "Oh! <such-and-such> is in this movie?!? I've gotta see it."

I bet you get a wide variety of answers. Should be interesting. At least, more interesting than UH & LATech-talk.

Tony Benford gets my vote.

Maybe it's me, but I don't think he played his one shot at leading man very well, plus that film was a disaster at the box office.

Jimmy Stewart, Cary Grant, Henry Fonda, Gregory Peck etc have to be given consideration. Seems like people are mostly thinking of the last twenty odd years. Many great screen legends with a ton of iconic roles.

This would be a tougher list for me than all time films really.

Jimmy Stewart? Never heard of him! But Ryan Gosling is one of the greatest of all time!

That's the problem with actors these days. They just try and get by on their talent. You want to know what they are lacking?
