Mean Green Basketball Schedule Showcases Game Against Last Year's National Runner-Up Indiana

DENTON - The 2002-03 North Texas men's basketball schedule is highlighted by a trip to Bloomington, Indiana, to face the Hoosiers, last year's national runner-up. Although times and dates are subject to change, the schedule also includes road games against SMU, Colorado, Baylor and Auburn, as well as a home contest against Metroplex-rival TCU.

The Mean Green will open its season with five consecutive road games before opening its home schedule, which is comprised of three non-conference and eight Sun Belt Conference games, with TCU on December 10.

"I think we are again playing a very difficult and demanding schedule," said North Texas head coach Johnny Jones. "We feel like we'll find out a lot about our team early this year because of the tough non-conference schedule, playing our first five games on the road.

"With the addition of SEC opponent Auburn and last year's Final Four team Indiana, it makes our schedule more exciting for the fans but at the same time very challenging. However, we look forward to the challenge."

Excluding the second game of the Winthrop Tournament because North Texas' opponent for the game is yet to be determined, seven of the Mean Green's 11 non-conference opponents had winning records. The Mean Green's schedule includes two teams that compete in the Big XII (Baylor, Colorado), one Big Ten school (Indiana), one SEC opponent (Auburn), WAC opponent SMU and Conference USA foe TCU.

While North Texas will face Indiana and Baylor on the road this season, the Hoosiers and Bears will play at the Super Pit in 2003-04. Fans will get their first look at the Mean Green on Nov. 8 in a home exhibition game against the Texas Blue Chips at 7 p.m.
