Hoping to emulate TCU's success is great, but as it relates to attendance, we can't discount the fact that they've effectively become Fort Worth's "pro" team in the way the Longhorns are in Austin.

Obviously, Fort Worth residents and government have an inferiority complex regarding Dallas, so as soon as TCU showed on-field success, the city was quick to embrace them in full as the most visible sports representation of their city

This can't really happen in Denton because most in the area primarily associate themselves more with either Dallas or Fort Worth than they claim Denton as "home" in this way.

I will have to respectfully disagree with this statement. There is some furvent Denton pride going around these days. If we could out perform SMU and TCU that would certainly win over the city.

OK, if we're trying to engage Denton, why not partner with Denton pee wee football to have teams experience some sort of "on field" experience on occasion.

Maybe it's just being in a designated area during pre-game. Maybe it's halftime recognition Whatever the experience, "get 'em while they're young." Hopefully, they would have so much fun that the kids would develop a desire to follow NT football beyond the one-time event and drag their parents on subsequent Saturdays so that the Mean Green become their family's "team"

This is a great idea. It's exactly the kind of low cost/low risk/high reward move that we ought to be looking into.

I think the recipe for upping attendance that has the best chance at succeeding is something like this:

1) More local engagement. What jdennis82 proposes above is a great example.

2) Do some microtargeting* on our alumni base who live in the region and send them free tickets to one home game.

3) Win.

*I hope to God someone at UNT has the kind of data to do this, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if we don't have it. We're still in the 1970s when it comes to alumni engagement. It's pitiful.

The database is in the final stages of being overhauled. I only know this because it was right around when I started asking about trying to set up events and they started really pushing the Alumni Ambassador program that they began re-working the whole thing to get up-to-date info about as many alums as possible. Pretty soon, any idea that gets the go-ahead to happen (at least as far as the Alumni Association goes) should have the capacity to come to fruition, as long as the budget to do so is there. And with low-budget stuff, if we can get all of those tickets comped by the AD/ticket office/whatever, then we should be good to go.
