Ive been trying for days and finally got a hold of Central Wyoming coach Shelby Lindley late tonight to talk about Armani Flannigan, who committed to UNT today.

Thats the way these things work sometimes. Once you get the news, everyone is OK to talk. I should get Flannigan on the phone in the next day or so.

What really stood out about what Lindley had to say is that he believes the 6-7 forward is one of the elite athletes in junior college basketball.

Sounds like we beat out a pac12, big12, and big 10 school. Nice.

No it doesn't. Quit fooling yourself.

Interest does not mean scholarship. Do you seriously think those schools would have "backed-off" because of a relationship with UNT?

If those schools had offered Flannigan, he most likely would not be a UNT commit today.

JUCO coaches have to recruit, also. Just a coach 1) saying nice things about a kid that helped his program, and 2) building his résumé with future recruits.

Nice to see a commit, but I'll hold any excitement until he signs.

Rebounding numbers are also concerning if we plan to play him at the 4 or 5 spot.

Looks like message board folks know more about this guy than even his coaches. Great to have this expertise here on the board. Me, let's see how he fits in and plays once he gets to Denton. Seems we have had players who work out and players who don't. Proof is in the play once they arrive...not in hype or not before that. Here's saying "welcome to the Mean Green".... Now sign the letter and let's get about winning some BB games!

Looks like a good pickup. Kind of curious why he only verbaled instead of just signing outright.

Waiting on other offers? Hope not...at this point if you commit, you should just go on and sign.....unless....this was a thought I had as well. Hopefully, this is not one of those "place holder" commits.

Come on ... Sign already!

      Please keep in mind that it looks like shortly they will be changing the roster limits and the amount of players eligible to be put on scholarships. I believe then you will have to keep the minimum of 85 but you will be able to go higher if you choose but with a lower total number of players that can be in the program.

      1. I have us at about 80 scholarship players. This count does not include Makenzie McGill who we almost assuredly need to put on scholarship to keep, and Evan Jackson who deleted his transfer portal post and hasn’t posted anything since. Also does not include high school commit Terrence Lewis who still seems in line to sign in February. That being said, we probably could sign a few more HS guys this February. We have space and likely will have more space after spring to bring in more portal guys this summer if needed. 2. Probably will have a better idea on this after spring when we have a better idea of where we still are weaker than we want to be. We have pretty good numbers at each position. 3. There definitely will be more transfers after spring but pure speculation on who. Larry Moore appears to be passed over at tackle, and I doubt he wants to spend his last season of eligibility on the bench. Same for VJ Bronson at DT. At safety I don’t expect Isheem Young to come back but I could be wrong. He came here because of Caponi and we seem to have been recruiting that position as if he isn’t coming back. BJ Allen at safety looks like he is in danger of getting passed up by multiple guys so he could be better off looking elsewhere for more playing time. I think Zach Evans is similarly buried on the depth chart. I‘d be surprised if any of those 5 guys were still here after spring. Those are 5 spots I pretty much expect to open up just based on guys who are sort of the odd men out at their spots, but looks like they’ll be here through spring to have a chance to carve out bigger roles.

      Many people on this board, constantly talk about competing with SMU. We should also pay attention to what TCU and other programs are doing, so we have a bar to set for ourselves. Ignoring the competition, gets us where we are now.
