What is the most realistic results we should see in 2013? I know that someone mentioned that one national publication has us going 2-10 awhile back. That seems awfully low. I would expect us to win 4-6 games in 2013, with wins over Idaho, UTEP, UTSA, Tulane, and a win or two over the following teams (USM, La Tech, MUTS, and Ball State). I am on record as preferring Berglund over DT at QB, but the more I think about it, the more I still believe that we should win no less than 4 games this fall no matter who is our QB, assuming we keep reasonable health across the roster. What is your realistic prediction for this year? If we win 3-4 games, does Coach Mac come back in your opinion? I say that he will, but just curious to see what the board thinks. If he wins 6 games or more, would you favor an extension? I would definitely favor that.

regardless how many games we win DMac will be back, he is using his ISU 5 yr plan here at UNT.

Now I expect minimum 6-6 but that is setting the bar to high maybe

I agree that we can probably expect 4 wins regardless. With the half-step up in conference affiliation (only a half step as nearly half the conference is from our old one), I would suspect that 4-5 wouldn't get him an extension but would keep him on the warm (not hot) seat until next year. I still think we have things moving along enough to get as many as 6 or 7 wins, maybe even an 8th if we're extremely pleasantly surprised. If we get at least 6 I can see an extension on the horizon, though they may expect a similar or better season next year before offering it.

I believe a bowl game is with in our reach this season.

I think there are 3 road games off the top that are probably losses:

@ Georgia @ Louisiana Tech and @ Tulsa

I think there are 5 games that should be wins:

Home against Idaho, UTEP and UTSA

@ Tulane @ S Miss

There are 4 games that I have as toss ups:

@ Ohio and home against Ball State, Mid Tenn and Rice

If we win 4 of the 5 games that I think we should win, and 2 of the 4 toss ups we will end 6-6 for a bowl bid.

I am hoping for better, but I think 6-6 is very realistic.

I am a homer each year and get my hopes up an expectations way up. This year I am going to try to keep it more realistic. With that said I see 4 wins, I could see less and have a hard time seeing more.

We do not have the defensive line to keep enough teams from ball controlling us.

I wish we could admit that we can't land enough defensive tackles to be competitive and, therefore, be realistic about what kind of defense we run. To me, that means going to a 3-4 or 3-3-5 a la schools like BYU and San Diego State run.

The excuse is always one of two things - (1) There aren't enough defensive tackle prospects, and/or (2) the best are taken up by the biggest programs.

I think both are true, and that we are in a state raided by every big player in college football. So, why do we not try out of the box stuff to help ourselves? Maybe this is a downside to an old, experienced coach like McCarney who has probably done 4-3 his entire career. Perhaps?

I just don't see us doing enough on defense to win. I'm also concerned about the part of the defense that is the punting portion of the special teams. A good punter, as we all know, helps a defense immensely. We bog down in tearing down Derek Thompson and defensive lines and overlook how a less effective punter would hurt us this fall.

4-8: wouldn't be surprised by 3-9; would be shocked at 5-7. Six and over is not possible.

I'm expecting beer and ribs, which is always a winning season.

I'd say 3-5 if I still had expectations, but since I don't, I'll say Coors light and bratwurst. Can't go wrong with either.

Didn't we try the 2-2-2 in the Dodge era?

Sure did feel like it.

American beer is not beer and light beer is not anything. I will go Becks, bratwurst and 5-7 though.

Hate to break it to you but Beck's is an American beer. Has been since late 2011, early 2012. Brewed in St. Luis, Mo.

What are you, some kind of communist???

American light beer. The closer to water (with alcohol content), the better.

You can keep your motor oil.

Anywhere between 0-12 and 4-8. Idaho is ran by a Petrino now and will be ready to play, I wouldn't be surprised if UTSA knocks you guys off in Denton.

I don't think anyone is taking anybody lightly this year. Similar to Northwestern State and Steve Roberts playing TCU that time.

To hell with it then. I'm going back to Bass Ale, but thanks for the info. adman. (I thought that stuff was tasting a little swilly lately).

Yeah. f-ing global economy. (And sadly I must report that Bass Ale is now brewed in NY.)

I'll tell you this - the local DFW brew market is pretty phenomenal. If you are in the DFW area I promise there are some craft brews that will tickle your fancy. Lots of em. Granted you cant consume most at home as they arent big enough to bottle AND keg their beers but still some great stuff and a lot more of your money stays home rather than going half-way around the world. (Or to NY or St.Luis.)

I finally got a hold of some of that Band of Brewers Third Shift Lager, and it's pretty tasty, especially for being almost on par pricewise with Bud/Miller/Coors. They advertise on the ticket as a Fort Worth beer, but googling them, it looks like they're a Coors product. Who knows with beer anymore? Lately, I've been drinking from Lagunitas (Petaluma, California), Breckenridge (Colorado), and the guys who to Dale's Pale Ale (Boulder, CO?)

It's getting harder and harder to find beer that isn't brewer in batches of millions of gallons.

That said, I'm always down for some cheap American light beer swill. I'm kinda beer slutty that way. I'll drink anything.
