Lundy turns down Clayton State job

North Texas assistant coach Bart Lundy has turned down an offer to become the head coach at Division II Clayton State.

Lundy confirmed Sunday afternoon that he will remain on Tony Benfords staff at UNT.

Well this is exactly what it looked liked....this isnt exactly a strong statment for next season.

An offer to be the head guy at his own program and I would think the opportunity to make more money ? And he turned it down ? It sounds like to me that he is sincere and wants to do what he can here. I appreciate his not wanting to "jump ship" and make this past season a really unpleasant memory.

Seems like he carefully thought things over and then made a very classy decision. Nothing wrong with that.

I know nothing about this situation, but there are a lot of people that turn down jobs because they have no chance of getting them.

I said I know nothing about the situation, but don't believe everything you hear about job offers.

Maybe he was given certain 'assurances' if he stays and the situation doesn't improve.

Greetings from cold Wisconsin. Let me fill you in on Coach Lundy, he is not going to tell you something that is not true. The only reason that coach would even entertain a D2 job would be to get closer to his sons. I'm certain that the job was offered and after careful thought Coach decided that UNT was the place for him. From my point of view UNT is very lucky to have this coach at this time.

He knows if he stays another year or so there will be a D1 job open that he's quite familiar with.
