Big East didn't call about name

The Appalachian Athletic Conference of the NAIA isn't giving up its AACSports.com URL anytime soon, though the old Big East -- named the American Athletic Conference as of Wednesday -- didn't call the league to inquire about it.

As part of the league's announcement, the old Big East plans to go by "American" and not by the letters.

That's fine with AAC commissioner John Sullivan, who still wonders if there will be confusion.

"I wish they had called," Sullivan said. "Maybe they figured we were NAIA and they didn't need to."
