So you do not think that anyone can ever turn the tides? One bad year and they should be cut? So "mistakes" can never right themselves? As mentioned earlie duke fans said the same thing about coach K. How stupid do they feel now....

He kept the team together and earned theplayers respect. Hopefully next year he will earn some of the negative whiners respect as well. He may or he may not. Either way mistakes are not just made in one year so chill out.

I forget... Was coach K. handed the most talented team in Duke's history at that point? Did he have any prior head coaching experience/success?

Sorry, I know it was marketed as such, but I don't think this was the most talented team ever. Maybe they had the most potential or natural ability, but they weren't proven. Not making an excuse for Benford, because I was shocked af the season we had. Just my own personal opinion.

And whose fault is it that this ability and potential wasn't developed? Isn't that the job of the FREAKING HEAD COACH?!?!

So Maddening.

Man, I couldn't agree more.

If this team was coming off of a conference tournament final I'd blame Benford.

If two players who were lighting it up prior to grade issues were returning I'd blame Benford.

If a guy who was universally regarded as a first round NBA talent were returning I'd blame Benford.

I just can't blame the guy for burning down the house though...all he did was stand nearby holding a gas can and matches.

Not everyone, My friend. I believeTasty for one was very wary of the hire. Even I said the hire looked good on paper, but we had no idea if he could coach because he never had. Several others were upset because RV didn't do what he said he was going to do, hire a coach with head coaching experience. We liked his recruiting ability, but had no idea how he was as a coach. The fact that numerous programs said no thanks should have give RV a clue.

But like I have said a thousand times (as you point out), the sin isn't the hire, the sin is the acceptance of failure after the hire failed miserably. But that is what we are good at at UNT.

What you said about the hire wasn't even an opinion. You were up in the air, like most of us, so don't give yourself credit for saying nothing. Hindsight is 20/20. Getting rid of someone after a year is a knee jerk decision in my opinion, but a second year like this past one is definite cause for termination. If we were to win 15 or 16 games next year we should kick the tires for another year. Anything less we need to hire someone whose had one good season...like enfield, now that's a good hire. That's someone who is guaranteed to win where ever he goes. Edited by Green Crazy

"In his second year at Florida Gulf Coast, the 43-year-old Enfield led the Eagles to a school-record 26 wins in 2013, including a victory over current No. 5 Miami. The Eagles won the Atlantic Sun Tournament with a resounding 88-75 victory over Mercer. In just the school's second season of NCAA Division I post-season eligibility, FGCU became the first team since Florida in 1987 to win the first two NCAA Tournament games it ever played. As the NCAA tourney's No. 15 seed, the Eagles shocked second-seeded Georgetown and then seventh-seed San Diego State to advance to the Sweet Sixteen.

Enfield was 41-28 in his two seasons (2012-13) at FGCU, with the 41 victories equaling the program's combined total in the four years before he arrived. His squads played an up-tempo offense that featured spectacular dunks and alley-oops (they were nicknamed "Dunk City") and a defense that thrived on takeaways. The Eagles scored 70-plus points 25 times in 2013 and ranked 16th nationally in steals (8.9 per game). He produced the 2013 Atlantic Sun Player of the Year (Sherwood Brown) and Defensive Player of the Year (Bernard Thompson).

In 2012 in his first year at FGCU, he led the team to the Atlantic Sun Tournament championship game."

So let's see. In year two he had 26 wins. That means that in year one he had 15 wins...or three more than Benford. Oh and he went to the conference tournament final in that first year.

At a school that wasn't eligible for post-season play prior to two years ago.

This after being an assistant on FSU squads that went to the tourney multiple years and to the Sweet 16 recently. Oh yeah, and being the shooting coach for an NBA squad.

We'd be foolish to hire a flash in the pan like this guy to replace a legend like Benford. Perhaps the sarcasm should be left to those that do it well, no?

Others have already pointed out the Enfield issue. If you think we are 3 or 4 games better next year with less talent and playing better competition, well, be prepared for a HUGE let down. Like I said, I think you will be in the surprised group in 2 weeks when you see how adversly our recruiting has been affected.

Meanwhile, at LSU, JJ has done just the opposite:

ANd I talk to ardent LSU supports who STILL are not happy with JJ and say he must produce next year or else. But, then again, that program operates in reality.

don't get me wrong, i don't think we will win 15 games next year either. i'm just not going to come on here and talk in definites, because only God knows what's going to happen next year, we can only take "educated" guesses.

as far as jj, you think people who want to get rid of a guy who in his first full year signed a recruiting class like that and got them a better, not much better, but better record "operate in reality"?

i'm sorry, i'm sure this had a point, but i failed to find it.

are you saying he did have more than one good season? if you're referring to his first year as being good, then he won 13 regular season games and two in the atlantic sun tourney, 15-18 overall. doing well in your tournament and having a good season aren't the same things, in my opinion.

Yes, because that is the reality at most programs.

Definitely not the most talented team ever. However, definitely proven to compete at a Sun Belt championship level.
