The board of regents at the University of North Texas bowed to pressure from sports writers and will change the name back to North Texas State. The name change will be effective August 1, 2013 in time for the coming football season. Also, they agreed to change the nickname from Mean Green to Mean Eagles, as the name mean green has not matched athletic performance for the overall athletic programs. As an unintended dividend from the name change, Lee Jackson's contract as chancellor of the University of North Texas system is now voided due to the name change.
