"Give the job to the guy who wins it in practice. That's all I ask. "

That's all I fear. DT seemed to be the definition of a guy who lights it up in practice and then shrinks on the big stage.

OR, as I've pointed out before, he lights it up one game and then someone else wearing #7 shows up the next game to (as they would say on wall street) make a "market correction".

I agree in the long term, but I don't think it's a terrible solution to the qb competition with our new offense, at least for the first game.

Idaho is a team we should put up 40+ points against at home. If I see a repeat of the Texas Southern performance from last year I'm just going to lose it.

"heavy sigh"......and he started out so young and positive......... :(

. Hayden Fry's record after his first two years. 7-12-2 so what is the significance of 9-15? DT does not play defense nor can he control when receivers quit on their routes. Berglund has yet to take a snap as a D-1 QB. Let this be settled on the field not in a fan message board. The competition will make both better, but to anoint a guy who has not played in three years over a senior starter and captain is way premature.

Not anointing anyone. It is MHO that 9-15 is more significant than 2 single games. I don't care who is starter, I just want to start winning again.

As far as Fry is concerned, this board would have wanted him fired after year 2.

Don't forget Mac's unwavering loyalty to DT during tough times last season. I would not be surprised at all if DT is the starter.

I'm not saying you're wrong but last year Mac had little alternative except to play DT as long as he was healthy because he didn't trust Osborn and McNulty had the broken foot. Even a healthy McNulty functions better where he can run (as does Berglund). DT does not possess the speed of either BB or McNulty nor likely the accuracy of Berglund. But, he is a battler and the competition is making him better.

Dead wrong about DT. He will be the senior starter come 8/31. Berglund thinks he can rest on his laurels of three years ago. DT knows the offense ,now has the confidence of his receivers ,is quick enough to be mobile (he does not have to run it forty yards just be positive yard threat to keep the defense honest). DT is a proven commodity ( see @ Troy in 2011 & @ KSU in 2013). McNulty was pitiful starting the Tulsa game in 2011. For all the pre spring talk look at Coaches' Mac & Chico's remarks after Sat. Scrimmage, and it's obvious that DT is doing good things!!!

My recent memory of DT is the ULM game last year, and I have to say it was worst performance I have seen by a D1 QB. He did not look like he belonged in the game at all and many player parents in stands were visibly frustrated at his play so i assume they had seen the same things before. For our teams sake, I hope he has improved, but I do not believe he is a gametime player even if he showed up in a couple of games last year, We need someone who has 2 off games not 2 on games.

Haha, I usually keep my cool pretty well. But geez, that TSU game had me and my friends going crazy, and from the board's reaction we were not the only ones. I had to convince them all to stay.

Here's some good information for you guys. We might have a 3-star JUCO linebacker who played for a big 12 school coming to campus today.

With your motivational ability, we would be 0fer in District 5-5A.

Ya, the outside publications that look at this team objectively must have the same motivational problems.

Hope they are wrong, but I trust them way more than fans that have predicted a bowl season the last 3 years. Seems their track record is a little better.

I hope we win, but have zero expectations.

Honestly, the Idaho game is exactly why we need to have a solidified starter. We finally get a chance to open the year at home (can't remember the last time this happened) against an opponent that we have a good chance to beat. Don't want to see an opportunity to excite the fan base going into CUSA produce a clunker of a performance because we can't decide who's the best guy to lead the team. Gotta have this sorted out before the first game. We've seen the 2 QB rotation here in the past and it doesn't evoke positive memories.

His game against Troy was the one that got me--just horrendous play. Between his play and the fact that we couldn't kick a FG, we lost to a bad team at home by a TD.

DT kind of reminds me of Daniel Meager, who had one game against SMU that was awesome and record-breaking, but when we needed it the most, he threw a killer pick late in the game that was too much to overcome and we lost to a team that only won that game all year. In his other starts, under Dickey or Dodge, he was pretty bad. DT had a solid game against a good K-State team, with throws underneath that were open all day. But, overall, he hasn't shown me that much. His games against Texas Southern, Troy, South Alabama, and ULM were among the most poorly played at that position that I have ever seen.

I will say it again--if DT is the QB on this team in 2013, we won't win 4 games. We may not with Berglund, either, but I think you can build on him for the future.
